Deadlock from Valve drops fixed two-week update cycle to move onto larger updates

While developers at Valve continue building up the invite-only Deadlock, their next-generation MOBA, they're changing up how they do updates for the game.

In an announcement in the official Discord a developer said:

As we start 2025 we are going to be adjusting our update schedule to help improve our development process. While it was very helpful for us in the beginning, we've found that our fixed two-week cycle has made it more difficult for us to iterate on certain types of changes internally, as well as sometimes not giving enough time for the changes themselves to settle externally before the next update came around.

Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year.

Seems like a perfectly sane idea. Having such a short set schedule must have been pretty limiting for them.

Hopefully at some point during 2025 we'll see Deadlock get a proper public release. As right now you still need to be invited by someone who already has access on Steam. Even so, it's still doing really well with a peak of 18,389 concurrent players in the last 24 hours.

One game I would love to try out, so if anyone who already has access would be so kind to arrange for an invite then that would be great. Cheers.

I continue to doubt Valve's branching strategy.

Haven't been able to grab an invite to check it out yet, if anyone had one to give I definitely wouldn't complain
ETA: Got one, danke.

You need to be friends on Steam for an invite. A link to your profile or a friend request and comment on my profile would go a long way.
