Recent updates to THE FINALS ended up breaking it on Linux / Steam Deck, but Valve have pushed out a new update to Proton Hotfix to get it working again.
Lots of reports came flowing into ProtonDB about it being broken, and on Valve's GitHub too where yesterday a Proton developer noted Proton Experimental's Beta version got a fix that should help (with reports showing it did). So now Valve have updated Proton Hotfix and set it as the default for THE FINALS. So you shouldn't need to do anything, except untick any Proton version you may have forced on it previously.
Testing it myself today on Desktop Linux (Kubuntu) and yup, all working just fine again.

Unlike normal Proton version and Proton Experimental, Valve don't generally announce changes for Proton Hotfix since it's not used too often and only in certain special cases like this where they're not ready to update the other main Proton versions. See more in my guide on all the Proton versions.
In case you missed it there was also a Proton Experimental update on January 22nd.
It's simple but a lot of fun.
Oh and the obsessive chasers of the meta also made the game pretty unfun to play for me. Game's supposed to allow an ample variety of playstyles and strategies with the destruction and whatnot (my fav weapon was the Medium build's shotgun), yet those people only care about winning so they tackled the game like it was CoD, getting all sweaty for long-range headshots or whatever was the new meta then.
Still I hope Embark keeps working on it because I did support them with some money to grab some cool skins. Plus, the only other F2P game worth mentioning for me these days is Marvel Rivals (except that one runs pretty good in Linux ).
so the fix is great news, I'll give it a try again, game is pretty fun overall
