With a demo now available, if you love turn-based dungeon crawling RPGs like something out of the 90s, be sure to go and check out Heroes of the Seven Islands.
The developer calls it "A (poorly) hand-drawn tribute to Classic Role-Playing Video Games and Comic Albums". I think the style has a lot of charm to it though, reminds me of some classic Flash animations I used to love watching. A "comfy yet challenging" non-linear adventure experience awaits you in this one, filled full of side-quests to distract you.

Story:
A terrible event has just occurred...
Furax The Indestructible, fleshless carcass and soulless body, has arrived through an inter-dimensional rift in the colorful, carefree world of Émeyralia, to spread SADNESS and DESPAIR. Nothing seems to be able to stop him: his influence grows daily, many disciples join him andNIGHTMARE CREATURES appear on every continent.
According to the prophecy, only THE ORACLE could defeat him, but he retired centuries ago. To find him, the 7 keys held by the 7 rulers of the 7 islands of the Emerald Archipelago must be gathered. Four heroes, the bravest of the brave, are chosen for this quest. The future of Emeyralia is in their hands.
Highlights:
- Inspired by Might and Magic 3-8, but it's point-and-click.
- Turn-based yet fast combat system.
- Hundreds of (poorly) hand-drawn unique illustrations.
- Play the main quest or explore the open world and start side quests.
- Discover 7 biomes with villages, cities, dungeons, caves, forests and so on.
- Dungeon Synth Music.
But, sorry, these placeholder graphics are absolutely awful, its not even some kind of artistic direction or a question of style. These are just awful placeholder graphics, imho.
Sorry, devs, please hire a skilled artist.
Sorry, devs, please hire a skilled artist.Heh, I was sure some people would hate the style. I don't actually mind the doodles.
Going on my endless wishlist.
