Valve released another smaller Steam Client Beta update for Desktop / Steam Deck, with a little tweak for in-game notifications amongst some other bug fixes.

The changelog is the same across Steam Desktop and Steam Deck:

General

  • When reconnecting to Steam (including when resuming from suspend), in game notifications will no longer appear for friends currently in a game.
  • Fixed the Backup Game Files dialog sometimes failing to complete.

Big Picture

  • Fixed an error when receiving a voice chat invite.

Steam Input

  • Fixed L3/R3 buttons not working on fightsticks or other devices that don't have left/right stick analog axes

Note: This client update was re-released to fix a regression when opening the standlone on-screen keyboard.

A useful tweak to the notifications, since they could end up a bit spammy once you have quite a few friends. If some were having issues, it could end up filling up your notifications. If you even have them turned on that is.

Funnily enough, the "friends in game" notification spam just started to annoy me the other day. I don't have that many friends, but it seemed to be giving multiple notifications for the same friend. This was especially annoying in handheld mode, where the notifications would cover part of the UI for the game I was playing.

I turn all friend notifications off. I really don't need or want to know anything while I'm gaming.
