The Sims and The Sims 2 officially return with a Legacy Collection for each

The rumours were true, EA have re-released the classics. The Sims Legacy Collection and The Sims 2 Legacy Collection are live on Steam now. Both include a bunch of previously released DLC for each game.

Of course, since it's EA, you also have to deal with: "EA online activation and EA app software installation and background use required" and also Denuvo Anti-tamper. Should still work fine on Linux with Valve's Proton though, apart from the occasional EA app blip. Valve rated The Sims 1 as steam deck playable Steam Deck Playable, currently no rating on The Sims 2.
Update: 19:54 UTC - EA have removed the mention of the EA app and Denuvo on both.

The Sims Legacy Collection includes: The Sims, The Sims 4 Throwback Fit Kit. Plus The Sims packs: The Sims Livin’ Large, , The Sims House Party, The Sims Hot Date, The Sims Vacation, The Sims Unleashed, The Sims Superstar and The Sims Makin’ Magic.

Being a lifelong fan of the Sims, this is quite a surprise. However I will not touch this with a 10 foot pole until they take off this ridiculous DRM and account requirement. I'm not gonna jump through hoops to play 25 or 20 year old games that i already have anyways on physical disc, Jesus

The soundtrack for the first game is one of my biggest nostalgia triggers. 2's is great too, but the original just takes me right back.

I already got the original version of Sims 2 working on my Steam Deck with Lutris, so I'm not really interested. But I might get it once it's cheap enough for convenience.

I wonder if custom content works with it.

I never had these game "legally" and I still want to buy them today. But Denuvo for this?... No. These should be on GOG by now or just on Steam without any crap.

What a joke

Denuvo anti tamper? Why? Also, no one wants the EA account garbage.

As someone else said, do yourself a favor and just run this with Lutris or Bottles.

Denuvo is a digital cancer and the gaming industry is total butt

Guess they're not abandonware anymore. For 20+ year-old games, they are priced way too high!

I got my disc based compilation editions for both versions for much cheaper back in the day ...

You really wonder what's going on inside the head of people who'd shell out a lot of money to license Denuvo to protect two 20 year old games that are readily available on every pirate site on Earth. I have no experience wearing neckties, but do they interfere with the brain's air supply?

Well, I've never liked wearing them -- I find them way too constraining. You may have something there ...

Apparently you don't need the EA App nonsense at all.

Weren't they working on The Sims 5?

I expected themto require EA app BS, but requiring Denuvo is a new low, lower than they could fall.

As already said - these should be on GOG

So apparently they removed both the EA App and Denuvo? The store page says you only need to agree to the EULA now.

Yeah, it was a mistake and it was only referring to the Sims 4 DLC.
