Gearbox and 2K have now revealed that Borderlands 4 is set for release on September 23rd, along with giving it a short new trailer. However, they've said a more thorough gameplay reveal will come in the PlayStation State of Play later this Spring.
We still only know a very limited amount of info about the game, apart from it will continue the tradition of being a co-op shooter. Previous games in the series worked well enough on Linux / Steam Deck with Proton, so likely this one will again too unless they do something odd.

The press release wasn't even particularly helpful:
The most ambitious Borderlands title to-date delivers more looter-shooter Mayhem than ever before, as the new trailer packs in intense action, outrageous enemies, and the killer loot awaiting players on the dangerous new planet Kairos.
Borderlands 4 transforms players into an unstoppable force on the battlefield, blasting through enemies with an arsenal of incredible weaponry. The iconic Borderlands gameplay fans know and love is evolving with even more movement abilities, as players can flex their skill expression with glide, dodge, double jump, fixed-point grapple, and more, to deftly deal death from every direction.
Are you looking forward to it? Let me know in the comments.
Cheers!
Still have mixed feelings (and I played all the Borderlands except the "tales from").
