Coming from Anshar Studios and 3D Realms, the classic FPS is back. Painkiller has been announced to release sometime in "fall 2025". Anshar Studios have worked on various games including Baldur's Gate 3, Layers of Fear and their own Gamedec.

Announced during the Future Games Show that I missed, it could be one to watch blending a metal soundtrack with fast-paced combat (with optional co-op). More about it: "Welcome to Purgatory! You’ve been sentenced for your transgressions against Heaven, but the Voice of the Creator is giving you one chance to redeem yourself. Wield an arsenal of infernal weapons, including nods to the original Painkiller plus totally new creations to discover. Blast your way through hordes of demons and titanic terrors - solo or in online co-op for up to three players - across gruesomely detailed gothic environments to stop the fallen angel Azazel’s invasion of Earth and earn your salvation."

For a second there, I thought I was looking at an updated trailer for Doom: The Dark Ages...

Original Painkiller is a classic. Is this considered a sequel or remake?

UPDATE:

Painkiller is a reimagining of the classic franchise

So a remake. Interesting.
