Paradox and Colossal Order have announced that to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Cities: Skylines that both the original and sequel are getting updates (and of course more DLC). It's Paradox, so of course new DLC was coming.

For the original (which has a Linux version) on March 25th the free anniversary patch will release with "dynamic parks" that will "change in appearance to reflect the different expansions each player has added to their game, to give a personalized tribute to players’ unique experiences with Cities: Skylines". Additionally these creator pack DLCs will also release:

  • Emerging Downtown, a pack focused on adding a variety of building sizes and construction styles to cities’ busy downtown areas.
  • Countryside, adding a selection of rural charm from small-town libraries and food markets to quaint, humble town halls.
  • The Harvest Harmony Radio Station, a country-inspired selection of musical tracks to fit any rural construction project.

Earlier on March 18th, Cities: Skylines II also gets an anniversary patch with "a selection of new in-game parks and buildings themed around celebrating the series’ birthday". Plus these creator packs which can be purchased individually or free as part of the Ultimate Edition:

  • Dragon Gate, a content pack inspired by Chinese architecture and “market quarter” locations.
  • Leisure Venues, including new entertainment options, parks, and leisure locations.

“We founded Colossal Order with the dream of creating a city-builder that would bring more freedom and creativity to the cities players can build,” said Mariina Hallikainen, CEO of Colossal Order. “With Cities: Skylines, that dream not only came true, but thanks to the continued support of our amazing fans, we had the opportunity to keep growing and building this game and community many years after its release and take it even further than anticipated. It's been an incredible journey that's taught us so much — and still has more to teach — and we are forever grateful to everyone who made it possible and who joined us along the way.”

Making C:S2 actually functional and maybe even optimized would've been a much better way to celebrate, but hey, we can wait until the hardware overpowers whatever they did to the game as well. I'm sure we'll all be laughing about it in a decade or so.
