Firaxis Games are quickly cleaning up the messy release of Civilization VII, with more new additions now available in patch update 1.1.1. The game has Native Linux support and is Steam Deck Verified.
This update seems like it adds in some things the game was really missing, but there's plenty of work left to be done before it will likely sway more classic Civ fans over to it.
The highlights of the patch include:
- A new "Quick Move" option to make gameplay faster and disable some animations.
- A new "Standard" start position option for map generation, which is closer to Civilization VI.
- Settlement and Commander Renaming.
- New Natural Wonder: Mount Everest.
- Plenty of UI improvements including:
- Improve Unit Flag and Health Bar Visibility.
- Improved Plot Tooltips.
- New “District Under Attack” notification.
- New Trade Lens and Ability to Send Merchants from Lens.
- Age Progress Now Shows Turns Remaining Until Crises.
- A new Restart Button to re-use your settings and start fresh within the first few turns.
That's just the brief highlights. There's a lot more to the update including various game pacing and balance issues solved, lots of general AI improvement, narrative improvements, some cursor problems on Linux and macOS were also solved. And for the Steam Deck they also noted "Fixed several input flows and prompts for the UI when using a controller".

On Steam Deck Civ7 is garbage, because there is no mouse emulation...No mouse emulation, but the game is designed to be played with a controller, and this works very well. You can click the left stick/touchpad to toggle tooltips if they get in the way, and this patch (finally!) added the ability to center the cursor in the middle of the current view with the click of a button (not sure which button because I haven't had an opportunity to try the game with the latest patch), so no more having to drag the cursor across the map.
Steam Deck performance is also excellent, although I wish they'd use Steam Cloud to sync saves instead of having to use 2K Crossplay which can only be accessed from within the game.
Personally, it's the most fun I've had with a Civilization game since Civ IV.
