Critter Cove is an open world life sim and town building game set in a cozy post-apocalyptic paradise. It's currently in Early Access and a recent update brings a big performance improvement to it.

The game currently has an Overwhelmingly Positive user rating on Steam, and Valve rated it Steam Deck Playable as it currently has small text and some potential controller icon issues. Apart from that, seems you're good to go.

On March 26th the developer announced:

Improvements to reduce hiccups, lag and stutters. Found a number of issues that were causing the CPU to block temporarily. You should now see a more consistent frame rate especially while moving around the world and lower cpu consumption. Steamdeck and lower end systems will notice the biggest change but improvements should be noticed on all systems. General improvement to frame rate as well.

Will continue to look for bottlenecks and improve them in future releases.

Fixed issue where if the player goes out of bounds or sometimes drowns the game would send them back to a point they had last surfaced but at the bottom of the ocean versus the top.

Great to see more developers optimising their games like this. The Steam Deck really gives developers a good device to test against for improving their performance. I hope over time more developers will do this.

"cozy post-apocalyptic paradise" . . . not words I usually see together.

Maybe it doesn't sound entirely absurd if you own the yacht in the thumbnail... and possibly a small country or two. Maybe a big one? Hand me a melon husk, if you could be so kind , while I wait for the "post-" to come along.
