Here's one I missed from earlier this week. KDE developer Nate Graham announced the formation of an open source consultancy company called Techpaladin Software, with their first client being Valve to continue improving the Steam Deck desktop mode which uses KDE Plasma.
Techpaladin Software is co-owned by Nate Graham and another developer Linux fans may know, David Edmundson. Plus "about a dozen of Blue Systems' current people" will also be working there.
Nothing really changes here, other than the formation of the new company. As Graham said "it’s the result of a mutual decision made between the owner of Blue Systems, myself and David Edmundson, and Blue Systems' other personnel who are moving over". And that "Techpaladin will sponsor almost all of the same people Blue Systems did, and they will continue to enjoy the same wide latitude to improve KDE software for a living with a high level of personal and professional freedom" and they will be a KDE e.V. Patron too.
As for their business model? It's similar to Blue Systems. Companies pay them to work on open source software like KDE. And they're "inheriting Blue Systems' contract with Valve Inc. as our first client" so they "will continue to maintain and develop large amounts of KDE software relevant to the Steam Deck".
Read more on Nate Graham's Blog.
Love to see KDE grow and get more support!
I would like to see KDE 6 on the Steam Deck.
What version does it use now? Plasma 5 is EOL for a while already.
