Mini Royale from IndigoBlue is out now in Early Access and free to play, with Native Linux support and Easy Anti-Cheat enabled. Another shooter for you to try if you're missing some multiplayer fun on Linux platforms.

The initial release comes with both first and third-person options across multiple games modes includes:

  • Battle Royale: Engage in an action-packed free-for-all where you fight to be the last soldier or team standing. Traverse chaotic, larger-than-life environments, making every match a new adventure.
  • Color Conquest: Take on three other teams in a nostalgic twist on classic toy soldier battles. Eliminate enemy players to convert them to your team’s color until only one color remains.
  • Deathmatch: Enter tightly packed arenas like the inside of a pinball machine, a sandbox, or a moving box filled with toys. Prove yourself as the ultimate deathmatch champion.

I've been playing it on and off since the early testing versions, and it does work quite well on Linux. Although the Steam Overlay doesn't seem to work with it. Other than that, no technical troubles encountered at least. Very much a back-to-basics Battle Royale here, although the movement system with a grapple hook is quite fun.

They've got a tough uphill battle with this one though. Launching any multiplayer game is always difficult, especially when you're a small indie team and when there's so many free to play online games out already so it could easily fail. At least being free to play they've given it the best possible chance for now. Who knows, perhaps the toy soldier style will be what wins people over. The skill floor is at least low with this one, as it's easy to get into to pick up and play and get some frags without being particularly good.

While it's free to play, they do plan to sell cosmetic items.

It's been added to our anti-cheat compatibility page. Remember to share it when people ask if a game with anti-cheat supports Linux / SteamDeck.

It's getting blasted in the Steam reviews, weak gameplay is the common complaint. Many beta testers are disappointed that so little has improved in the last 12 months and what was promising back then hasn't been realized today. In a gameplay-centric BR title, that spells disaster.
I have doubts the situation can be remedied quickly now when they didn't manage it over the last year. Fingers crossed.
