Historical strategy game Old World switches to Vulkan for Linux / Steam Deck

Mohawk Games continue releasing some pretty big updates to their Civilization like game Old World, with the latest aiming to fix up lots of issues and improve performance.

With the 1.0.76988 update, it should hopefully run better than ever on Linux Desktop and Steam Deck! Mentioned under the "Programming" heading in the release notes they've now swapped over to the Vulkan API as the default for Linux / Steam Deck. The result should hopefully be a smoother game overall, especially in the busy late-game.

On top of that there's been multiple other performance improvements, AI upgrades, new events and UI improvements. There's also quite a long list of bug fixes.

Old World has Native Linux support and is rated Steam Deck Playable. Hopefully they'll work on getting it Verified. It currently has a Very Positive rating on Steam.

This has been on my wishlist for a while. 4X games benefit from a big screen and, since getting my Deck, I spend less time playing games at my desk. I'll get round to it eventually, I'm sure. It's just got to be a time when I'm more in the mood for a 4X game than for sitting on the sofa.

So... which game engines are better on Proton with Vulkan? As far as I know, Unity is worse than DXVK. Is that true across the board?
