March 25 reminder - GamingOnLinux needs your support

Welcome to March 2025 readers! Here's a gentle reminder that GamingOnLinux is primarily funded by readers - that's you! And we need your support. GamingOnLinux is entering its 16th year, and I hope to continue it on for a long time.

Thank you to everyone reading, commenting, sending in tips and leaving comments!

Want to help support GamingOnLinux? See below!

Firstly, the best way is regular support via Patreon. For Patreon, a suggestion is to pledge around the start of a month, as it charges at the beginning of every month (although that is changing at the end of this year to the date you started each month). Generally the Patreon is just to have regular funding to keep bringing you the news.

All other donations, without any special rewards can be done by:

You can also bookmark and buy games using our affiliate/partner links (and they really do help!):

You can find all the links to support us on our dedicated page any time.

Unfortunately, since the last time I posted, Humble Bundle completely changed their partnership system from a dedicated one they ran directly to a third-party called Impact. It's been far less generous and helpful, so our overall funding has reduced quite a lot and it has been felt. So any support you can give will be firmly appreciated.

Additionally, our Forum was closed in December 2024 due to the UK's new wide-reaching Online Safety Act. Not many at all actually used it as most of the community is on Discord, but it's still a shame. There's been a few other smaller changes in comments and profiles to keep us out of scope of the law to hopefully not have any issues. No changes are up for discussion on that. This does not affect our regular news posting at all.

Onto brighter news - it’s going to be another big exciting year!

Thank you for continuing to read and support GamingOnLinux!

Don't forget you can follow across Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram, WhatsApp and RSS. Be sure to join the community on Discord to chat with others too.

I do not understand how a quote functionality could hurt any law.

The law and guidance is multiple hundreds of pages long and they’ve so far refused to properly clarify what they deem comments on comments. Allowing direct user to user replies (including directed quotes) right now is a grey area. During an FAQ it was asked of Ofcom, and they didn’t have an actual answer. Eventually when we get proper clarifications, especially for small sites and that sort of thing, it could return but as the single person responsible for everything I’m just not willing to risk the site or me directly.

Hi, I'm currently supporting through Patreon, but would really like if you could resume using Liberapay.

Sorry no plans to use Liberapay, it became pretty much pointless and was a hassle to admin.

I understand your reasons and fully support your decisions but unfortunately it excludes those of us that don't do social media.

I'm in the same boat, but I'd have made the same call if I were in Liam's shoes. A hobby is one thing to risk, but GOL is his livelihood. It's a shame in any case.

In the same boat here as well, though at least I always enjoy reading the comments on each article! Hopefully at some point in the future it will once again be legally viable to host an independent forum. Wishing you all the best, Liam! :)
