Valve released another smaller update for Proton Experimental, the constantly changing compatibility layer to run Windows games on Linux platforms like the Steam Deck with SteamOS. Confused on the differences between each Proton version? Then be sure to check out my guide.
The Proton Experimental update for March 20th has these changes noted:
- Fixed Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced crashing on launch*.
- Fixed The Finals crashing after a recent game update. (previously in Proton Hotfix)
- Fixed Warhammer: Vermintide 2 showing prerequsite installer on every launch.
- Added Steamworks SDK 1.62 support.
*There's still no online play for GTA Online, since it's intentionally blocked by Rockstar. Single-player works though. See more anti-cheat game compatibility on our dedicated page.
This update will just show up in your Steam Downloads for Proton Experimental, it would have been automatically downloaded if you launched a game that Valve set to use it.

Does anyone know if this continues your saved game from Legacy (on Linux)? I know Proton GE had a feature which lets a game access the previous/older games's saves, but I don't recall seeing GTA V Enhanced on GE's changelogs (besides the recent GetDpiAwarenessContextForProcess patch).

I don't think that works, to get you save from Legacy to Enhanced is kind of a PITA :
You need to launch GTAV Legacy, go into a new menu to upload your save (It only works for a single one IIRC), then go into the corresponding menu in GTAV Enhanced to download it. Why R* can't pluck your saves from their own cloud is a mystery to me, surely it can't be more difficult than implementing this ridiculous menu.

I played countless hours GTA Online and never single player ... according to the Rockstar Launcher over 200h ... all wasted by introducing EAC BattlEye and blocking legit players ...
Also I wonder does the old online account migrate to the new enhanced edition? Assuming it will at some point start working again on Linux ofc. Furthermore as an owner of the "classic" one is there a way to get the enhanced update without re-buying the game!?
Is it just me or was the enhanced edition once rated playable? I am like 90% certain I saw a playable rating earlier and was asking myself did they enabledEAC BattlEye for Linux only for the enhanced edition but not for the classic one? Or is my mind playing tricks on me?

It uses BattlEye and the Playable rating was a mistake: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2025/03/surprisingly-valve-rated-grand-theft-auto-v-enhanced-and-rainbow-six-siege-as-steam-deck-playable/

You should have gotten it for free automatically on Steam?
