On top of releasing a fresh update to Proton Hotfix, there's also a new Proton Experimental update for Linux / Steam Deck available now.

Confused on all the different Proton versions? Check out my guide for an explainer. All the changes for the March 6th update are listed below.

  • Re-enabled NVAPI for:
    • Neverwinter.
    • Star Trek Online.
    • Champions Online.
  • Fixed Deviator crashing with AMD GPUs shortly after launching.
  • Fixed Supermarket Together not detecting DLC on some systems.
  • Fixed Proton sometimes creating an empty window when running via XWayland.
  • Fixed touch not working correctly in menus of No Man's Sky.

Proton 9 came in May, Proton 8 came in April. So probably not till next month at a minimum I would say.

The real question is if Proton 10 will default to wayland or at least allow to use it through a launch option (mainly for that sweet native HDR without gamescope)... there's also ntsync which is right around the corner in wine from what I read.

These 2 features above sound too big and benefecial to just skip over for the next major Proton version. I hope some miracle happens and they do get included for Proton 10.
