Valve have released a new Proton Hotfix update which solves issues with both The Finals and Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced (offline play) on Linux / Steam Deck.
For The Finals, the game broke once again after a recent patch that I covered recently, so it's great to see Valve reacting quickly to fix the problems.
The story for Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced is a bit different though, as like the previous Grand Theft Auto V "Legacy" edition, this will only work for single-player offline play. Rockstar updated the anti-cheat to BattlEye back in September 2024, and have chosen not to enable its support for Linux as they continue to say Linux platforms like Steam Deck are simply not supported.

Announcing the update Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffais said on Bluesky: "A Proton Hotfix has been deployed for The Finals, as well as GTA V Enhanced's offline mode". Confused on all the different Proton versions? Check out my guide for an explainer.
If you have manually picked a version of Proton for either title, just uncheck the box for it in the properties, as Proton Hotfix will be set as the default now by Valve.
