Another developer closing up due to a tough industry. Studio Fizbin have announced they will be shutting after releasing Reignbreaker which arrives this month. Posted in an announcement on their website from Alexander "Pepe" Pieper, this follows their studio being in the industry for 14 years.

Studio Fizbin were responsible for developing The Inner World, The Inner World - The Last Wind Monk, Say No! More, Minute Of Islands and the upcoming Reignbreaker.

Their announcement can be found below in full:

Studio Fizbin's Last Magic Trick: “Reignbreaker”

Dear Community,

The name of our studio comes from a fabled magic trick, because game development often feels like an impossible feat of conjuration. But every magic show has an end, and after 14 years of giving it our all, Studio Fizbin will be winding down operations this spring after releasing Reignbreaker.

The games industry is in a tough situation right now, and we’ve been affected like countless other incredible studios in recent months. Our parent company Thunderful made the decision to drastically reduce internal development in November 2024 (LINK), which, as Thunderful’s CEO Martin communicated in the latest quarterly report (LINK), also affected Studio Fizbin. Since then, we’ve been exploring various opportunities to work on after finishing Reignbreaker. Unfortunately, none of these projects will move forward, leading us to make this difficult decision.

This means that Reignbreaker will be Studio Fizbin’s final game. We believe it's going to be the best game we’ve ever released, and our amazing team will be working hard to launch it on the 18th of March as well as providing post-launch support. In our remaining time, our focus lies on two objectives:

  • Shipping the best game possible after two and a half years of hard work
  • Supporting our exceptionally talented team in finding new opportunities in the industry

If you want to support us, please spread the word about Reignbreaker and play the demo (LINK), and support our team by reaching out to [email protected] if you’re looking for amazing talent in a wide range of disciplines.

We want to thank every single one of our fans for your purchases, your fan art, your comments, your reviews, your passion, and your seemingly endless support.

We also would like to thank all our business partners, Medienboard, the MfG, Creative Europe, and the federal funding partners for all their support.

And finally, we’d like to give the biggest thanks to our team – those who are here until the end, and the many others who have found a different path on the way. Fizbin and its games are defined by its team members, and you all made this the most inspiring place to perform the world’s most difficult magic trick: making games.

Thank you.

Alexander “Pepe” Pieper

Hate to see it. I'm hoping that after this disastrous past year we might start to see the pendulum swinging the other way. That said, I've never heard of this studio, and after checking their games, it's because they just release in genre's I'm not interested in. For fans of those genres, I hope the individual developers can find other good studios, but I bet it's a tough hiring environment out there right now.

That's pretty terrible messaging. "Shut down without releasing the game" isn't necessarily better, but they're saying "this game won't be good enough" (because if they were confident it would sell like hot cakes they wouldn't need to close) and "this game won't be fixed" (because the people that might fix it aren't there). All before the game is even on sale.

Still, best of luck to the devs wherever they end up next.
