Earthquakes, cockroaches and broken bones didn't stop the Hungry Horrors demo releasing

Sometimes developers put up blog posts talking about developing their game, but it's not every day you read about how they had to deal with earthquakes, cockroaches and broken bones. And yet, Clumsy Bear Studio still managed to get the Hungry Horrors demo out on Steam.

You can read all about what happened in their blog post, which makes for quite a read. Thankfully, they're okay. So we can all enjoy what they've clearly put a bit of blood, sweat and tears into. A game I was already quite interested in from testing an earlier build back in February.

So what is it? Hungry Horrors is a culinary roguelite deckbuilder where you strategically cook and serve authentic traditional dishes to legendary monsters. Your deckbuilding skills and culinary decisions determine whether you successfully satisfy your monstrous guests or become their dinner. That's right. You don't fight the monsters, you cook for them. Your cards make up your dishes, just don't let them get too close.

Features:

  • Feed, Don't Fight - Gameplay focused on matching dishes to monsters' preferences, replacing traditional combat.
  • Legendary Monsters - Encounter iconic folklore creatures such as Jenny Greenteeth, Dullahan, and Glaistig.
  • Traditional Dishes - Serve authentic regional recipes like Bara Brith and Cranachan.
  • Strategic Deckbuilding - Build your deck using dishes, spices, herbs, and utensils for strategic depth.
  • Pixel-Art & Music - Enjoy vibrant pixel art visuals and original whimsical music composed exclusively for the game.

Really a unique spin on a deck-builder and definitely worth a go. Made with Godot it has Native Linux support.
