FUMES is simply awesome. Bringing back retro fast-paced car combat that feels like the classic Interstate '76 and Twisted Metal meets Mad Max only more crazy with boss battles and all sorts. It runs perfectly on Linux with Proton 9.0-4 tested in the demo.

As the developer describes: "FUMES is a single-player game inspired by the golden era of vehicular combat genre. Straight-forward, fast paced, intense gameplay. Get into the car, slap some weapons on and cruise twisted wastes."

With the demo live on Steam, the developer keeps expanding and improving it based on player feedback and it's a demo you simply must try out. After playing it, I can safely say this is going right into the top section of my Steam Wishlist as I really can't wait to see more from it.

Feature Highlight:

  • Drive customizable cars. Equip them with weapons.
  • Experience driving physics inspired by old rally games.
  • Encounter waves of enemies. Get involved in the chase of destruction.
  • Deliver suspicious packages while escaping from greedy chasers.
  • Defeat the fastest racers of the wastelands in off road challenges.
  • Fight with giant bosses - monstrosities on wheels.
  • Customize your car. Choose loadout to fit your combat style. Slap some stickers on.
  • Earn new cars and parts by beating bosses.
  • No loading screens. No fast travel. Just use your car.
  • Slow down after the fight, go for a ride and inhale the FUMES.
  • Get lost in the desert. Wander endless, procedural environments.
  • Listen to the original, guitar-heavy soundtrack.

Am I the only one who remembers Vigilante 8 as the best game of the gender?

There's lots of genders, but if we go with gender "violent vehicle" or vv, then yes, I would agree. Vigilante 8 was the best of all the vv gendered games.

It seems like new games capitalize on old styles to generate interest.

My emotional reaction to the sight of this game is beyond ecstatic, but just like Selaco -- I jump over to the store page and see "Single-Player", or rather the things that "could" make this awesome for me personally are just not there.

Stardew Valley did the Harvest Moon SNES formula right.

Selaco didn't due the Duke Nukem 3D Megaton formula right in my view.

This to me is in the Twisted Metal genre and it at least presently or foreseeable lacks PvP split screen Multiplayer or Multiplayer in general which basically undermines the point of the genre, even a offline PvP would do wonders to make this buy-worthy for me.

There are plenty of untapped multi million-dollar markets waiting for the right person to fit the bill. Not that income is the __only__ goal, but I do think it is really nice when your indie passion project can generate enough wealth the sustain future game dev ventures and take being a starving programmer off the table.

Been having alot of fun with the demo so far

For those who like tinkering with low-spec gaming there's a dedicated "potatoe" setting

It's abit blurry but still looks surprisingly still quite nice and actually looks very similar to a ps1 game

There's even filters, like "full retro" that adds dithering.

Can't wait to try out the demo on my main pc

@felipecrs carmageddon was my jam growing up, kinda insane looking back how my parents were cool letting me play C2 on the home computer lol

The deformation of the cars and the satisfaction from the crashes was just great, I remember spending alot of time in the replay mode and watching the carnage over and over

Also the puns! Nothing like running over a bunch of people and having "CUNNING STUNT" pop up.. which would of gone straight over my head at the time anyway

I still to this day joke about mowing down pedestrians while other people are driving for X amount of points.

HEY LOOK a granny pushing a stroller, that's like quadruple bonus points, get em!!!
