Valve released a great sounding new update to Proton Experimental on April 4th, to help get more Windows games running correctly on Linux platforms like Steam Deck.

Noted to be now playable includes:

  • MySims Kingdom.
  • STAR OCEAN THE DIVINE FORCE.

A "hack" from Proton 7 was reinstated that helps with:

  • SpellForce: Platinum Edition, NieR: Automata, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and DARK SOULS III crashing with monitors exposing too many possible resolutions.

Other fixes:

  • Fixed XCOM 2 erroring out when trying to connect to my2K.
  • Fixed network issues in Hunt: Showdown 1896 after a recent game update.
  • Fixed Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced launcher hang.
  • Fixed Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced showing driver version warning with AMD GPUs.
  • Fixed Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced not being able to be uninstalled via Steam.
  • Fixed cursor not working in the menu of Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy (1999).
  • Fixed The Last of Us Part II Remastered PC crashing with Nvidia GPUs.

A Proton 9.0 regression was also found and solved:

  • Stardust Skate is playable again.

I give Valve their due, they are quick to fix stuff. I've been using
SteamDeck=1 %command% to get The Last Of Us II to work on my Cachy OS Desktop.
