Valve released another small stable Steam Client update for Desktop and Steam Deck, bringing in some pretty essential fixes for both platforms.

Seems there's been a few sneaky annoying bugs that have crept into updates lately, so hopefully this update solves the most pressing issues.

For Steam Deck:

General

  • Fixed installed DLC not being recognized by some games.
  • Fixed startup failure causing Steam to get stuck displaying Installing/Verifying screen when runtime files fail to unpack.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented BIOS updates from applying via Settings->System on Steam Deck OLED.

And for Desktop:

General

  • Fixed installed DLC not being recognized by some games.
  • Fixed Steam client window not setting maximized state correctly at startup.
  • Disable spellcheck suggestions for CD-Key input fields.
  • Increase timeout before Steam will consider a steamwebhelper process unresponsive to reduce spurious failures when launch time is longer than expected.
macOS
  • Fixed crash initializing the Steam Overlay in some games when using Parallels.

In the bigger picture, worldwide launch of the Steam Deck would cure the biggest Steam Deck flaw.

Closer to home, the notification bell and OLED network dropout are both quite annoying.

Game recording, or rather playback/editing, only working on the home partition.

thought I was the only one with the non-home partition recording not working completely , good to know I'm not the only one!

but that means that there's more people with this problem and it hasn't been fixed yet... not good to know

A couple of things I'm eager for, wayland support for the steam client and non-garbled side menus in big picture mode.

The lack of big-name, online multiplayer games.

I love my Steam Deck and it has quickly become my main "console" - but if the Steam Deck is ever going to compete with "The Big Three" (Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony) directly or make real headway in market share, they need to either find a way to get the majority of online multiplayer games working, or find a way to convince developers to actually support Linux-based operating systems.
