SteamOS 3.7.4 Preview is out now and it contains only a few bug fixes, but one sounds pretty darn important to give non-Steam Deck users a good experience.
We still don't know exactly when Valve will release the promised SteamOS for more handhelds yet, but it's coming along with each new SteamOS Preview release bringing some work towards it. The previous Beta, for example, had improvements for Asus and Lenovo handhelds.
Here's what's new in SteamOS 3.7.4:
General
- Fixed a regression from earlier 3.7 releases wherein corrupt Steam installs would fail to automatically self-repair in some cases.
- Fixed the performance overlay displaying some incorrect GPU metrics in level four.
Misc
- Fixed a bootloader crash on certain non-Steam Deck devices, including qemu-based virtual machines.

What frustrates me a bit is the frequency I encounter YouTubers that are super excited for this so they can replace Windows with SteamOS on their desktop PCs. I suspect they will end up just being very disappointed since that is not what this is for.

Is it? While it's focused on handhelds IMHO it could be nicely usable on regular desktops -- I'm planning on getting a regular PC and converting it into "livingroom console" with basically steam popping up just like on steamdeck (I know there are other distros that try to do just that…)
