Vampire Survivors just had two entirely free content drops! The first is a free DLC cross-over with Square Enix's SaGa series, along with a chicken-themed free update.
The free DLC, Vampire Survivors: Emerald Diorama, brings with it 12 new playable characters. There's also over 16 new weapons and a new Glimmer game mechanic. As the devs explained: "40 new ways to attack, including base weapons, evolutions, and the sensational Glimmer mechanic from the SaGa series. Whenever you attack with these weapons, there's a chance to spontaneously learn a special technique through the Glimmer system. Swords, magics, punches, and missiles: all the variety of SaGa gets represented!"

As for why it's free? Paperwork and legal issues. As they explained:
Paperwork. It took a very long time to sort out the paperwork for this collab, and it would have been twice as hard to get the licence if there had been any money exchange involved. That's simply how it works for big companies; even when the creatives on both sides just want to do it, like it has been the case for this and all other Collabs, there are a lot of hoops to go through because IP is serious business and a lot of different departments have to get involved when talking about money.
So we just did it the easy way, and in a way everyone wins: I got to have fun with SaGa, SaGa gets some more visibility, you get free content :)
Cross-save across PC, Xbox, Android and iOS is also live now. You might notice that PlayStation is missing and they explained that they've "run into a legal issue on PlayStation we weren't aware of that requires us to share info on our partners that we're unable to".
As for the other free update, The Coop, that's also out now that brings in:
- A chicken-themed update called The Coop
- New relic that lets you speed up the game!
- New stage, character, weapon, darkana
- 8 new Achievements
- 2 new Adventures with 6 chapters each:
- “To End an Ice Age” for the base game
- “Tides of the Foscari” for the Tides of the Foscari DLC
Vampire Survivors has Native Linux support (not advertised) and Valve rated it Steam Deck Verified.
