This week I took a look at Michael Todd's Electronic Super Joy: a fast-paced unforgiving platformer. I missed the initial release last year, and it must be said I was missing out. It's certainly not perfect, but the soundtrack alone may be enough for many of you.
The developers behind You Have To Win The Game have now announced that the follow-up Super Win The Game will release on the 1st of October! Count us as excited.
After going through some changes the refreshed Two Tribes team got to work on a brand new game called RIVE. The game looks beautiful and it's heading to Linux.
Brand new to Linux is a funny little game called So Many Me. The game is a charming puzzle platformer that has great visuals and a chirpy main character.
Shovel Knight is an awesome looking love letter to 8-bit games that was funded on Kickstarter some time ago. It had a Linux stretch goal that was hit and the developers have now teased it running on Linux.
Beyond Gravity is an interesting little mobile game turned desktop game that has you jumping from planet to planet collecting pick-ups. I say mobile game as it's one of those "tap to continue" type of games, but it's not actually bad.
LIMBO can finally be played natively on Linux thanks to Ryan "Icculus" Gordon and his porting magic. If you don't remember LIMBO came in a Humble Indie Bundle and caused a wee bit of a stir when people noticed it wasn't native.
Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty promises to bring Linux some great puzzle platforming as a complete rebuild of Abe's Oddysee which back in the day was a really amazing game.
Magicite the very colourful RPG platformer that comes with permanent death as standard is now released in full on Linux, but it's still getting big updates too.
A Mini-Sequel for Electronic Super Joy! A brand new World, ending in an Epic Boss Fight!
Jump, dodge & dance among insane hazards, missiles, lasers & monsters!
LIMBO caused quite a stir when it was released for Linux being wrapped in a custom wine wrapper by Codeweavers, but that saga looks like it's coming to and end.
1001 Spikes is a new retro-looking platformer that has co-op and versus play. We have rather a lot of retro platformers now, so what's different about 1001 Spikes?
Have you been missing the original Trine on Steam? Well, the wait will be over soon as Trine is getting a major update with a new Linux client in the coming months!
TowerFall Ascension the highly rated indie game is now officially available on Linux and with it comes a nice sale. Two of my favourites things a game and sale!
Monochroma, a grim indie platformer (where have we heard that before?), has been released on Steam. The developer, Nowhere Studios, managed to fund the game last year on Kickstarter and Greenlit on Steam. It appears to be set in a dark industrial world with an orwellian vibe. Carried by plot sans dialogue and some great 2.5D visuals, this game definitely looks to have potential.
