Caves of Qud from the developer of Sproggiwood has just released into Steam’s Early Access, and I decided to give it a spin. I’m not a massive traditional roguelike fan, so has it convinced me?
I'm a fan of roguelikes and I'm a fan of first-person shooters. So naturally I really like the idea of combining these two genres. And as it happens, another game called Barony has attempted that. Let's see how it fares!
Legend Of Grimrock has sadly been unplayable for anyone on Linux with an Nvidia 900 series chip (like the 970), until now. The developers just put up a Linux beta, and it works.
So what do you get when you mix FTL and Mad Max? Well, the answer would probably be Convoy. Let's take this roguelite game for a spin and blow up some nasty raiders in a very desolate wasteland on a planet far far away.
I was immediately interested in Convoy when I originally heard about it, but was sad when there was no Linux support. The good news is they now have a Linux test build available to the public.
Curious Expedition has been available in a web alpha since November last year, has already built a large following and has now been put on Steam to gather more player feedback.
Captain Forever Remix is a little favourite of mine, and it's now even better with a bunch of extra content. If you haven't picked it up yet you really should.
Caravan is the upcoming game from developer it Matters Games, and is a trade and exploration game combining strategy, RPG and roguelike elements. The game will be published by Daedalic Entertainment and will be released later this year.
Roguelites seem to be pretty abundant these days. If you check Steam, Desura or pretty much any online game store, you will find tons and tons of games that advertise themselves as roguelites. Delver is one too but, unlike many others, it's actually surprisingly close to the original Rogue.
KeeperRL is an interesting, and open source roguelike with RPG elements that is now on Steam. The code is open source, but the graphical version is not.
Pixel Heroes is one of the more interesting indie titles released recently, and I had a chance to take a look at the game and give you some thoughts on it.
The unique action RPG with card deck building mechanics, Hand of Fate, is finally fully released after a year of being in Early Access. The game has a spiffy new trailer to show off the game.
RogueSweeper is a mashup between a roguelike and a minesweeper game. Tap to reveal tiles, monsters, traps or items. Tap (or click) your way to the bottom of the infinite dungeon. How far can you go?
Out There is a popular mobile game that is being ported to the desktop with some great enhancements, and luckily for us the Linux version will be out soon too.
