Came across this program while searching the net today.
Game Editor - the game design software for anyone interested in game developing.
Looks really simple to use this create your own games.

Does indeed look cool, loaded it up but in my hungover state i had no idea what i was looking at.

I still think we need something more like scirra construct - www.scirra.com

It uses an event style scripting system with everything else point and click, much nicer.

Played with it a little bit in 2006-2007, but in the end I feel it is best in the end to devote some time to learn actual programming if your ever do get serious about game development. Gives you far more flexibility and a lot more control over your project.

I have dabbled with programming on and off for a while, spectrum BASIC -- AMOS on Amiga then college I was taught PASCAL.
I have managed to created extra missions and ship addons for oolite using java script (http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=ca166c7e38ef78c6e7c82ed4b8f0c380e04e75f6e8ebb871, currently i am getting back into my programming a bit and i am teaching myself Python.

I found myself a very nice tutorial (for kids, which makes it an interesting to read) Invent Your Own Computer Games with Python - Learn how to program with a free ebook programming tutorial

I have also played around with other programs like this most notably AGS adventure game studio (unfortunately its windows only, but is now open source i think)
I thought this program looked interesting and i feel it is a good starter to get involved in game development, so i thought i would provide others the link, and will probably have a go myself at some point.

AGS as far as I know is not free software, the guy behind it has some weird bee in his bonnet about how the "GPL does not protect your rights!" or something like that. Still, if you are interested in making games in Python, maybe you should take a look at PyGame.

Yeah pygame is part of that tutorial, also download pyinstaller for making linux binaries. I have had a quick look at instructions for pyinstaller but could make not head no tail of it lol. Will have a proper look at that when i have something worth making a binary for!
Oh and AGS it was in the back of my mind that it had recently gone open source, after a little google i found this http://www.ubuntugamer.com/2010/10/adventure-game-studio-goes-open-source

Interesting, though still not quite ideal for several reasons, but progress is progress. For my own purposes I would rather have the core engine released though.

It looks very cool !
Anyone tried it yet ?
How "good" is it for cRPG creating ? how good is it with long dialogs ? (still thinking about my "on hold" game).

Here is another one for game creation - was going to make a new thread but may as well reply here since the title fits it perfectly:

http://www.en.compilgames.net/index.php?file=kop1.php

Has a Windows build which can export to a linux runable file and the linux client is in testing.
Will do an article on it when i get it running, unless Rusty beats me to it as i don't have masses of free time right now.
