I did the same last month, and found 1'691'508 / 2'169'177 = 78%.

This probably has to be toned down since the first two games swallow up a very large amount of players. And thousands games (and gamers) are not even taken into account at all.

no and yes. It is true that these statistics are not good because the first games just get all the weight, but that is why I counted how many top 3, top 10, top 50 and top 98 games have linux support and we see clearly that all the way up, the closer you are to the top, the bigger the share we have. So it is not just that we have two very poppular free to play games.

So much for "Linux has no games worth playing" that so many windows fanboys claim...

Just think, 5 years ago we would of all laughed in disbelief if someone said to us "In 2015, we'll have 1,500+ commercial Linux games!".

Response would of probably been "Yeah and we'll have flying cars too right?"

It's quite shocking really how quickly the Linux game library has expanded when you think about it....

One of my points is that it is starting to get easier to count non-linux top games than linux top games or at least it is 50-50 most of the time.

During 2013 and 2014 as more and more games were supporting Linux and me and others were seeing Linux as becoming a really big thing on gaming many people kept saying "Linux is never going to work because way too few games play on Linux". My standard answer was "Rome wasn't built in a day". Now at the end of 2015 I see that Rome is already half built and very functional already. People should start seriously recognize that and I see most inertia in peoples minds than reality. Also I extrapolate that by the end of 2017 we will have a full blown Rome and ready for serious challenge and the end of 2017 is not so far away.

I am using Linux since 2004 and as my primary OS since 2008. In 2008 this was not a conscious choice for me (It was just that I did not bothered to fix windows) but at 2009 after a year of using Linux as my only OS I started to wonder if it could really challenge windows as a mainstream OS (It was far from being mainstream back then). I studied some trends and I concluded that it was on the rise. I extrapolated that it would need about 6 years to become mainstream. I was not exactly right, it was not meant to be exact, but I also was not far away from right.

Actually not me. If in 2009 someone said to me "1500+ commercial Linux games in 2015" this would seem quite logical to me.

Most importantly it should be obvious that Linux has in fact quality advantage. Linux games on average are better than windows games on average.

People are complaining that most of 1500+ linux games are "indies". The answer to that is that the same about this ratio is not only true but much worse for the 6800+ windows games on steam end even worse for the innumerable windows games not on steam. Also best indie games massively support linux! This is also crucial for evaluating quality and very spectacular.

The thing with "AAA" games is that (a) it is way more likely for someone to complain for not accessing GTA5 than complain for Lumino City (this week in humble bundle) and (b) linux support is somehow uneven. There are very few linux friendly publishers most notably Valve and Paradox Interactive and two other publishers (Aspyr and Feral Interactive) that do bring games on linux created by other developers. The not at all good fact is that so far most developers have little to do with linux and this is a huge problem that will take many years to shift.

The best for top 10 I have seen was 9/10 with only GTAV not supporting Linux. It seems we are steady at around 45% for top 100 for many months now.
