Re: Game Screenshots

Quoting: HamishOur man at id, Timothee Besset (who also happens to be the guy behind the Linux ports), programmed for the most part the QuakeLive networking interface so I am sure it is quite good. Problem is I have only two options for the internet: a satellite internet link and an overloaded dial-up modem. The modem is no good, I can barely load up this forum on it, and the satellite link is high latency so that makes it hard to run games on it. But the most damning thing about using the Satellite is if we go over a certain Bandwidth limit our ISP sticks us with extra charges. That is why I have given up for now on extravagant things such as YouTube, Flash, Internet games, or living.

:(
Can't you get normal ADSL, or something like this?

Re: Game Screenshots

Due to the fact that I live on a farm I have to deal with rural ISP services, which makes ones choice in providers somewhat limited. We got the Satellite link after we tried to set up a more traditional high-speed setup only to find that it would not work due to fact that the signal was being blocked. We live on top of one of many large hills, and there is also an active coal mine nearby that produces quite large mounds of dirt (the sound travels quite well if you are outside at night, the sounds of heavy machinery), so those are likely the culprit. We are looking into another ISP that offers unlimited high-speed services at the moment, if we could get that it would be a dream, but that chances of it working are still not that high.

Re: Game Screenshots

I should really install my copy of Osmos again. I won it in the first LGN contest (thanks again Maxim!), but only played it for a little while, straight puzzle games were never really my cup of tea. I figure when we finally put Linux on the computer in our living room I will put it on there so my mother can play it so she can be playing more than just Frozen Bubble. She was most disappointed when she won the final level of FB. :P

Re: Game Screenshots

Is Second Life actually any good?

I heard a lot of press about it when it was new, with loads of real life companies buying land in the game and after a while it just kind of died?

I tried it for a while, but I got bored pretty quick.

Second Lifes never dieds. It has a bigger playerbase than ever, and due to being a public company you can see the company that runs it is making more money than ever. It changes lots from year to year.

On getting bored there.... I think most people get bored because they dont know what to do there... Your not told 'go here and kill this monster' like other MMO's. There is arena combat areas and racing areas that I like, and roleplay areas and all sorts.
