Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen gameplay impressions (is a general discussion about RPGs)

[Excuse my poor english]

Hi,
while waiting for the fixes for The Witcher 3 that will let my PC not crash, I moved to play Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen.

The game works like a charm at 1080p and everything maxed using the Nine patches (on ArchLinux I'm using the package wine-gaming-nine from AUR), but suffers great slowdowns using only CSMT.

That said I want to talk about the gameplay. The game looks fantastic: I'm nearly 20 hours in and visually is very impressive, with large prairies, mountains, forests, rivers, abandoned castles, giant enemies. But the problem is that all this world feels completely empty and lifeless. There are some NPC but they are dumb. Houses have nearly always the door closed and when you can enter they are empty, there's no forniture, you can't move objects, etc.

This means that the RPG elements are nearly absent: you exists only to fight, can express yourself only fighting, not interacting or making choices. Quests (for what I have seen right now) are only a pretext to go to a place and kill monsters or to escort someone to a place while killing monsters and avoid they kill him. The game asks you only to level up, doing quests that seems all the same.

This usually happens with open world games, but is the first time I'm getting this impression of "emptyness" from a game that beautiful. To me this seems a great waste of potential.

Someone played this game and got the same impression?

I was thinking about getting this.
But if it is just an uninspired grind quest with no world building then I see no point.
Thanks for the warning I guess.

For sure is not what we usually call a cRPG, is an action game with some RPG elements. I can't suggest you to buy it when on sale and then refund, because it takes not lessa than 10 hours only to make your avatar reasonably good at fight.
