If you asked me this five or ten years ago I would have listed several of my favorites in order. Now I can say it doesn't matter. I lean more towards two now, Linux Mint and Fedora. Lately it has been mostly Linux Mint. I haven't had the time to get into things as much as I use to. As far as I am concerned. Linux is Linux and will always be Linux no matter what name it goes by.

Can I vote for 4? :D

For lightweight systems and systems built for purpose (such as EPOS/Kiosk etc) I'd pick Arch Linux - Simply because it can be tuned so well.

For workstation purposes, such as development or gaming then it'd have to be Fedora because it works so well for those purposes.

For server purposes such as an email, web or database server, it'd have to be CentOS/RHEL because it is rock solid stable!

For giving to new users, or people who don't understand technology very well on their personal computers, it'd be Linux Mint.
