Caster

Just picked this one up and I must say its a lot of fun. Very fast paced if you have 5 bucks to spare its work taking a look at.

The only complaint I have is the game was a little short.

Re: Caster

I've tried it, was quite fun but at level 3 or 4 I've died a few times and continued to other games.

You should go back and give it another go, some of the later levels are just nuts.

Re: Caster

Yeah it's a great little game at a great price, and yes it is too short. I hoped it would be remedied with the release of episode 2 which unfortunately feels like it might be vapour-ware (although haven't checked its website in a while for any news due to internet problems on my side).

Re: Caster

And more you will have with all new episodes for FREE.

Does it mean that it would have updates, which would get new episodes?

Re: Caster

Re: Caster

Frank Earl still says he is working on porting Episode 2, so just hold tight and wait for a bit.

The details in the store are a bit out of date now that we've added the new episode. There are now 30 playable missions plus community mod content you can download from the website.

More episodes will be coming, but I'm sorry I cannot say when. To keep from getting too burnt out on Caster, I've taken a break to work on another game. However, I will be returning to finish up the series.

The Linux version is very close to being updated with the latest episode. Since Linux games are not available on Steam, just shoot me an e-mail and I'll make sure you get a copy.

Its the lack of feedback regarding the linux version which is hardest to bear. To be kept informed on the progress would make the wait easier. Its now after Christmas the stated date of release and no feedback as to the hold up. We understand of the problems and difficulties / time required to create a game but a little PR wouldn't go amiss.

Indeed...I would have to agree with you on that.

I apologize for the bit of silence (again...sigh...). My now former employer decided to offshore the contract right out from underneath me midstream so I was scrambling for that combined with dealing with the death of my grandmother and trying to get one of the other titles I've worked on ready for the HIB #2- so I've been a bit busy there. I can say that things pretty much went to hell in a handbasket on my end, which is why I wasn't giving better feedback.

New contract's a 40/week real long term deal that should find me lurking here and a few other places again.

Everyone's supposition was right- it was a driver related issue and it was fixed. I notified Mike on Christmas Eve day that it was ready to rock and roll in the staging area, hoping to give everyone a last-minute Christmas present. Guess that didn't work out as planned. It's ready and I'm more than happy to find a way to quickly get the update to you all however it can get done.

Sorry for your loss and I know how crunch time can be. Thank you for taking the time to give us a status update.

Holding off on the capture until this is released. Thanks again for the update.

Thanks for the update, and my sympathies for your loss.

So having taken a break from Caster for a while to work on some other projects, and then having taken a break from working on games in general over this Christmas break (playing a few instead), I’m pumped about working on Caster again!
I have some ideas for game play and story that I’m really excited about.
Story has been a weak point for Caster and hopefully the next few updates will make it more compelling.
I’m also adding in better mod support. Instead of adding in mods in a separate mods directory, I’m going to treat them like separate game with their own sub directory.
Before I release the next update to Caster, I’ll be releasing Sunshine as a mod of Caster. Most of my initial work on Sunshine has been in 2D (because I wanted to do something “simple” ), it looks like I’m going to promote that to 3D as well. A lot of the game play will be 2D, but I might play around with the camera a bit.
As far as updating the visual style for Caster (higher poly, shaders, etc), I’ll probably wait until Caster 2 to do that.
Here’s for a great 2011 with some sweet updates to Caster

!

Good to see work is continuing on Episode 2, though my condolences to Frank Earl on the death of his grandmother. I actually lost one of my grandmothers over the Christmas period too, as well as a psuedo-grandmother in the form of the mother of my mothers first husband. So it seems to have been a rather black Christmas period in that regard... :(
