Mouse wheel jitter
Pangaea Mar 22, 2020
I have a SteelSeries Rival 310 (it says underneath), which I'm normally pleased with. It's reasonably big so fits well in the hand and has the buttons I need (don't need a "gaming" mouse with 48 buttons). However, for quite a time now the mousewheel is totally buggered. The mouse is just sitting there, and suddenly it skips up a notch on the page. Or I'm scrolling down to read, or go down in a document, and it scrolls up, or jitters up and down a bit. It has also scrolled terribly slow in Linux for some reason. All in all, I almost don't use the scroll wheel any more when reading or working in big documents, because it's such a pain in the arse. Less frustrating overall to drag with the scrollbar to the right of the page. A bit awkward, but at least it's consistent.

Is it possible to fix this somehow? From what I managed to dig up on the 'net, it's probably a mechanical issue. But it looks really difficult to open up this darn thing, and I don't want to risk ruining it entirely (especially in these times). Have you run across a similar issue - is it possible to fix? Without a doctorate in computer mouses.

As you can imagine this is very frustrating, and there are times I want to smash it into the wall. It probably wouldn't help in fairness, but yeah... :-|
