Quoting: StoneColdSpiderI bought myself a treadmil last Monday

Good on you friend! I hated doing treadmill, but I like running on the streets. I think it's the changing scenery.

I probably should get back to running too.

I have it setup by the front windows so I can watch the birds and other wildlife as I walk on the treadmil..... And if I get up early enough I can watch the sun rise as the windows face to the east.....

I cant run anymore my knees are too knackerd from when I played tennis back as a youngster.... But if you can run you really should get back into it....

Quoting: BlackBloodRumI spent a few days of last week setting Saints Row 2 (yes, that old game) on my Steam Deck

Naturally, like most people the first thing I did was get the Gentlemen of the Row game mod for it. Got the game + mods installed and working on my steam deck.

Saints Row 2 is my favourite Saints Row game.... But does it still hold up today???..... Storyline wise I think it would..... But it has been a really long time since i played it so im not sure about gameplay wise...... Let me know if you think it does or not......

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderYeah Neo Bomberman was good fun...... You were right about (ahem) bombing through it by quarter feeding it..... But what do you expect it is an Arcade game after all...... I still had fun with it tho..... I really did dig the artstyle of it too..... Bomberman looked real nice on the Neo Geo......
It's a pretty title, for sure. Can't wait until I get to it, now!

Well you will just have to wait wont you....

Well.... my game time counter on steam had 16.2 hours game play time before I installed it on the steam deck. It now reads 36.8 hours so

The native port was terrible and barely playable, so I gave up on that one after a while.

I feel it holds up well. But you've gotta take it for what it is, which I mean don't walk into it expecting the latest & greatest modern triple AAA graphics and features. It is an old game, so just remember that. There's no bouncing jugs or moving hair for example like in Saints Row 3 sadly

Textures actually don't look too bad, but you can obsoletely tell they're the old way of doing them (low res).

I didn't walk into it with an old save though unlike SR3, which surprised the crap out of me when the Linux port saves were imported by steam cloud into the windows proton version and worked, I didn't expect that from SR3!

So with Saints Row 2 it was start from scratch.

The game however does hold itself up in game play imo, it's full of customization (even more so if you used GoTR mod) right down to layered clothing options and many hidden open buildings that you can walk into, with even buildings you used in missions open to just walk into. Making it a proper open world game. (rare even in modern games)

In this regard it has more places to explore than GTA IV & GTA V, which had hardly any open buildings and limited clothing options with no layering ability (in single player).

I much prefer the SR2 way as I love to do all the extra little things rather than simply main missions. I tend to do lots of other stuff between missions.

The games dark humour and story still hold up well also in my opinion.

And finally and ironically enough once the port is thrown through proton on the deck, it runs surprisingly well! Probably better than it did on windows (considering how bad the port from X360 was!) vulkan has truly worked wonders on this one.

Crashes are relatively rare, so far I've only had two crashes. Frame rates *sometimes* drop a bit when using the decks power saving options mostly while driving or flying (I set CPU to max of 5), disabling the power saving options makes it run smooth.

Although I am using an unofficial mod, Gentlemen of the Row, which fixes a lot of known bugs in the original PC port, and that particular mod used to be maintained by IdolNinja in his free time before he died, he was staff at Volition (the games dev) so he knew the game quite well.

Good to hear it still holds up..... I last played it back in 2016 and also used the Gentleman of the Row mod...... According to Steam i have 56.3 Hours of play time with it.... Its easily my favourite Saints Row game and right up there with GTA Vice City as my all time favourite open world game......

Good to see my memory is still correct about the game and that the rose tinted glasses havnt taken over yet
I am getting old so im sure that will happen soon enough.....

I might have to look and installing it again and giving it a bash...... I would much rather play SR2 than SR3..... I still cant figure out how they went from such a great storyline in SR2 with some really genuine deep, dark moments...... to dick joke dick joke dick joke dick joke dick joke dick joke dick joke dick joke dick joke dick joke dick joke..... Finally somthing deep and meaningful and then followed up by another dick joke 5seconds later in SR3......

Thanks for the info mate...... Much appreciated.....

Yup, that's SR3.

In my opinion, SR3's biggest drawback was the lack of "open world" ironically enough. I mean sure it had a few stores you could walk into, but no hidden buildings and building interiors that were opened for missions, were closed after.

So effectively it wasn't truly open world. That combined with the small world (you could literally get from one end of the world to the other in a car in less than 2 minutes).

You could use Sandbox+ to revert building states to be open and such.. but in an open world game you shouldn't need a mod to do that (clues in the name, open world)

(I've never understood why an open world game dev would want to take the time to model a nice interior, only to then use it for one or two missions and lock it off from the player to never be seen again)

The missions are okay, but once you've done all the missions, you tend to feel like "welp that's it, next game".

SR2 doesn't give that feeling imo, since there's so much to do!

Humour yeah.. SR3s humour got old fast. I prefer the dynamic feel of SR2. On the funny side you've got pierce, elaborately planning a break and entry, sneak in-sneak out style swiftly followed by GAT interrupting his plan explanation: "Why don't we just walk in the front door and shoot everyone?" - "Great let's do that!" dropping pierces plan entirely! The face expression he gives is like "but! but! but!"

Or pierce coming up with ideas, shaundi interrupting him with the same idea before he can finish his sentence taking the credit for it, and his like "But that's my idea!!"

Then it can flip and turns dark, you've got your homie being dragged down the road and when you save him, your character has to kill him in mercy.

The game also gives you the "you're a criminal" vibe, you can feel your character can be dark and that they are a criminal. Saints Row 3 (and GTA to some degree) you tend to feel like you're a super hero or some "good guy" as opposed to a cold blooded criminal.

THAT'S Saints Row. It's just a damn good game.

Edit: Also just noticed something that I had never noticed before.. my character starting singing along to the radio while driving I crashed the car from laughing at it though -.-
