"Waves" - Doesn't even start

I've been trying to play "Waves" for some time (it's free on Steam), but despite the Proton updates there is no way to make the game work (it says "Running" for a few seconds, and then it simply stops without outputting any errors).

Did anyone have more luck? As a reminder, there was an article here on GOL reporting that the developer unfortunately passed away, so there is no one to contact about the problem.

I tried it on Linux Mint 21 with Proton 7 and windowed.
It run just fine.

Hi cruc. By pure coincidence I'm also using Linux Mint 21 and Proton 7 by default, but it doesn't work. Trying different versions of Proton didn't work either. It seems I will have to wait for newer versions of Proton, but at least it's good to know that it already works for other people.

It works fine here too, and no particular issues are mentioned on the Proton issue tracker or on ProtonDB. Sounds like it might be something specific to your system.

It's an older D3D9 game, so it might be worth trying PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 and see if using OpenGL instead of Vulkan works better for you.

It's hard to figure out what is wrong without an error message. Run Steam from a terminal and check if there are any errors logged after trying to launch the game.
