question about linux mods
Lib-Inst Dec 18, 2022
is there such thing as native linux mods? and if so is it similar to how native linux games are?
BlackBloodRum Dec 18, 2022
Not native so far as I'm aware (or if there are, they're very rare)

But with that said, a lot of mods for games running in proton can work just fine, for example I know you can get Cyberpunk 2077 mods running, or mods for GTA V etc.

actually mods are mostly based on game client and so on. So if a game has native build on linux probably mods will work on linux too for examples;

torchligh 1 2 +mods
Reassambly +mods
Hatred+mods
Arma 3 +mods (depends on native experimental version)

Yeah, there's native mods. If a mod requires compilation or requires additional libraries.

1. Total conversions mods such as The Dark Mod.
QuoteThe Dark Mod was first released in 2009 as a total conversion mod for Doom 3. Version 2.0 was released in October 2013 as a standalone game using the open-source id Tech 4 game engine.

2. Mods that rely on functions outside of the game, requiring Windows dlls, or Linux so files. This can be seen with Half-life 1 mods. Some of these mods are compiled only for Windows (dll), and therefore are not native.
