Lack of will!
pete910 23 Mar 2023
My will power failed me a few days ago and gone ahead and ordered a steam deck.

I'm very disappointed with myself! I blame the Mrs entirely for this lapse.

This is how the conversation went that caused this predicament!

Me " Ya know I quite fancy one off these Steam decks to tinker with but doubt I'd use it enough."
Mrs " Well when your not using it I can to play with you!"

30 seconds later I ordered one.

I hang my head in shame.....

I was afraid I wouldn't use mine much, but I ended up using it more than my gaming PC. It's just so convenient to pick it up and play a bit. Not for big detailed games, those I still prefer to experience on a large screen, but for smaller indies it's perfect.

Intended double entendre?

Anyhow congratulations. Which size did you order?

I wasn't sure what all of this had to do with lack of wifi until I re-read the headline.

Child moment:

That's what she asked.

(My apologies in advance!)

This'll only be the best purchase you make this year, so... no biggie?

Sounds like a joke I would make in my Weekend Players Club posts

I hang my head in shame.....
Dont worry..... Sounds like your misses will keep it up for you

My spouse is very much not a gamer, until she finds a game she likes (World of Goo, Peggle, Ticket to Ride have been particular favorites) and then she can be fanatical. We'd owned a Steam Deck for 6 months before she turned to me one evening and said, "Wait, so that thing can play Steam games?"

I was genuinely speechless for a moment. But, now she's insisting that it be loaded up with her games as well for the next time we go on a trip.

512 GB

Hahahaha welcome to the club.

I genuinely had no intention of getting one but shows how little persuasion it took

It's arrived!!!!!

It's arrived!!!!!
Aside from everything else I'm sure you want to play on it, I found it useful to do a full run through "Aperture Desk Job," the included tutorial game. It only takes half an hour or so, and it helped me get accustomed to some of the newer (to me, in any event) features that I hadn't experienced with a controller before - most notably being able to activate the gyroscopic motion control on the fly whenever you rest your thumb on the right thumb stick.

It's also very fun. That doesn't hurt, of course.

Oh pete910 i don't even know you and already worried about you
Now, you can call me doctor. Yes and doctor prescribes the following program for next week:

1. Ban on work!
2. Minimum of 4 hours a day gaming on the Deck!
3. You can also give some love to your desktop off course, those strategy and FPS games are not gonna play themselves!

'Tis what your doctor orders. No cheating!

Oh and off course some multiplayer with Mrs is mandatory as well... Can be even done, dare I say, *after* the gaming session as well, if you know what i mean, pete910.

The doctor knows what's best! And work it ain't, let me tell ya.

Cheers

I would love to be able to do that

All good Pete. Hope to learn from you in the future about you and your grandson sharing a nice multiplayer session. Wish you all the best. But - sometimes - do remember the doctor...

pete910, I can sympathize, I've also had barely any time to play for a few weeks now.

Remember that the Steam Deck has a sleep function, which makes it a lot easier to pick up a game for five or ten minutes at a time. You jump right back in to the moment you left off, get a few minutes in, and then tap the power button and set it down when it's time to [do the laundry/write an e-mail/coax your grandson out of the tree] again.

Good luck.
