What game do you truly regret buying?

My worst would be paying $50 for Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. An absolute dumpster fire of a game. No redeaming qualities.

Quoting: Liam DaweHere’s an interesting one for you: what game has been the one you regret buying the most?

For me, it has to be Aliens Colonial Marines. I bought into the hype, the original faked trailers look amazing and I think we all know the resulting poo it turned out to be. That was where I really stopped pre-ordering games personally.

I don’t think I’ve had a bigger let-down since then.

I had preordered Aliens Colonial Marines for $50 and it would be on my list as well but I ended up cancelling the preorder before it came out. Just had a bad feeling. Ended up getting it for $4 later on and at that price thought it was alright.

Last week I regretted buying Aliens Dark Descent, because it's not great on the Steam Deck (fails to wake from sleep most of the time plus shoddy perf). I'm sure they'll fix it up in time, but Steam refunds are so nice. I now have some monies burning a hole in my (Steam) wallet.

Quoting: GuestPhoenix Point.. I am sure there's worst games quality wise that I own. But the problem is that the expectations and hype was pretty high for me, so it's more about reality vs expectation kinda of thing. It's like a nice looking fruit with shiny skin that when you start to peel it's super rot . such a let down.
I'm so glad that I took the wait and see approach with that game. I'm still disappointed although I haven't spent any money on it just by reading reports and watching videos about it.

My biggest disappointment has nothing to do with money spent, it's an expectations vs. reality thing.

The game is "The Guild II : Renaissance". I was very hyped by the historical setting, by the original ideas, by the very fun game stories people shared in the review.

I knew, from the reviews as well, that it was unfinished (many bugs, poor UI), but I had endured playing "Vanguard : Saga of Heroes" for years, so I thought I could play anything.

I was wrong. This was the worst experience I ever had in a game. I don't remember the details because it was a few years ago, but I remember I never knew how to achieve even the simplest things and had to try and fail all the time.

Good things came out of this though. I've realized that I've grown older and that I have much less time to play than before. I can't and don't want to spend hours trying to understand a poorly designed and buggy UI before I can enjoy the game. I probably wouldn't touch Vanguard if I discovered it today !

Even if a game has very positive reviews, I'm now always very careful if a lot of negative reviews talk about a poor UI.

Quoting: win8linuxFall Guys is prolly the one with the most regret. It was the one time I caved in to FOMO and bought it at full price, only to not be able to play it anymore mere days later with the addition of EAC. Now it's not played as much back then, since matchmaking takes much longer.
Fall guys can be played on Linux BTW.

Almost every "Epic RPG" (we're talking like baldurs gate, wasteland, that style).

It should be right up my alley... Huge world, lots of characters, party customization, big awesome story.... Ady I buy them Everytime cause maybe this time it'll be good..... And then I get part way through and get bored.... Or I didn't optimize my party enough and hit a wall where I'm under stated.

Oh I should've put Wasteland 3 here too. I only played it through once, it felt a way inferior gameplay experience compared to Wasteland 2.

I have the same story with Helldivers 2. I hate this game so much

Quoting: GroganLook at the Oculus Rift, the recipient sold the device to Facebook for a billion and skipped off with the money.

That one's a major scumbag; he runs the 'defense contractor' company Anduril nowadays, and his brother in law is famous Florida Republican ghoul Matt Gaetz.

EA WRC

against my better judgement i bought this game as im rally/wrc games fan. It had all red flags from the beginning. Being EA as publisher, having denuvo and build on unreal engine 4, which codemasters never used before.

but i still bought it and while it was pretty bare bones game in terms of features, it was decent enough gameplay wise. Until EA decided to add another rootkit named EA Anticheat into it. Which ended the possibility of playing this game for me.. So yeah..wasted some money. Got 100 hours out of it though....

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. I blame this game for the sad state of the franchise today.

I've regretted buying versions of games, only to want it on a different platform. But I don't know if I just flat out regret getting a game itself.

I want Puyo Puyo Columns. Also, I don't hate Tetris. I hate Alexey Pajitnov. He can piss off. Though I was happy for any Puyo Puyo with the Puyo Puyo Tetris games. I got both of them physically on the Switch.

I don't want any more crossovers, I want Puyo Puyo to be its own standalone thing.

Inside. I bought the game because Limbo was really good. Inside came from the same developers.

I suppose the forced EA App stuff means you can't downgrade it using Steam and still have a functioning single player game. So yeah, any 3rd party dependency remains a giant red flag.

StoneChess @ ~$11,000

It's not a bad game, it's just not viable in the market. Extremely few games without a very large marketing budget are.

Oops.

It doesn't have an EA App
So yeah. downgrading is possible in theory, but this game is all about clubs and participating in online rallies at least for me. I dont really care much about the career modes and stuff like that.

edit: Luckily WRC Generations works great and has online events going. It also has better car physics and grip simulation than EA WRC game, but sound design is awful on WRC Generations.

Definitely Horizon Forbidden West for me. I absolutely LOVED Zero Dawn, and I was SO PUMPED for the sequel. Waited years for it! When I first started playing FW, it was great! I was having a great time - the graphics were of course stunningly good, and Aloy was back!! But then ......... the game started showing what it really was: A completely bloated mess.

It's really confusing, because clearly the developers didn't understand or realize what gamers loved so much about the original.

The biggest give-away regarding that fact is that probably the #1 complaint about the first game was just the open-world bloat with the minor side quests, collectibles, etc. So what did they do? For the sequel they made this aspect x10000000 worse.

Not only that, but they also took a very well done weapon and armor system and transformed it into a tedious slog of collectathon boredom.

THEN on top of the open world bloat disaster, the inventory weapons armor disaster, the story was not captivating or interesting AT ALL.

It got to a point where I fired up the game one day, realized I had no idea what was going on story wise because it was just so boring, and I was going through the map and making a list of quests NOT to do because they're 100% complete wastes of time ... I just totally gave up.

One of the most disappointing gaming experiences of the past many many years.

Kingdom Come Deliverance
Great setting and story , great attention to detail.
But that sword combat , holy hell. It felt like operating a forklift with both shoulders dislocated. I played Chivalry 1 and Elder Scrolls and even older games like Crusaders of Might and Magic. I liked the sword combat there.
Here the enemy had infinite stamina and my character was winded after two blows.
I put up with it for 10 hours or so , trying to get around it with fetch quests , bows , sneaking.
Save system being limited to potions did nothing to endear the damn thing to me.
Eventually i left a rage and beer induced all caps review on gog and uninstalled it.
