Goldbox D&D games with Unlimited Adventures Module Manager?
slaapliedje Jun 25, 2023
Anyone figured out a good way to get this working on Linux?
In case anyone wasn't aware of this, at the end of the run of the GoldBox D&D games by SSI (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, etc) there was released a game called Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures (FRUA). This was basically like an early Neverwinter Nights toolset to build your own adventures using the Goldbox engine.

There is a module manager for it to be able to install new adventures, but as far as I have been able to test, I have not been able to get it to run under Linux.

Can it be bought ? Is it abandonware ?
I did little bit of a search and found some DOS thingy from 1993 but i guess you don't mean that :(

It IS that from 1993.

You can buy it here:

OK
So , i got the GOG version.
I have Bottles installed via Flatpak.
I installed the game from the GOG exe file and it ran fine by default ( I say by default as i have no idea how it's supposed to work and the sound from it was just bleeps and bloops , so maybe Soundblaster failed to initalize ? Not sure wha to expect- sorry)

It is the Forgotten Realms Module Manager that I am attempting to get to work. Through Steam, it looks like they all work correctly with the Gold Box Companion. It is getting the module manager...

By the way, you can run the GOG games natively via Linux, though I think I had to change which binary the DOSBox used, as it was compiled to link to a library no longer on my system.

This is what it's supposed to look like with just the Goldbox Companion loaded. This actually works in Linux with the Steam version.

What I'm trying to get working is the module manager.

I'm trying to decide if it would be easier to rewrite all of GBC and FRUA-MM so it runs natively in Linux, or try and get a Windows version of DOSBox to support MIDI music. :P

Any luck with the module manager so far ?
