Quoting: StoneColdSpiderThe Ruta 40 would have been great fun if not for the speed zones...... Lots of good runs through the RIOs with nice tight and twisty tracks thrown in as well..... Its still fun but man those speed zones........ They totally detract from what should be a fantastic rally..... For a free DLC...... Ruta 40 is great value.......

Will report on the Inca Rally when I finish it most likely next week..........

I've got to say, those speed limit zones actually ruin the game for me. It wouldn't be as bad if not for that navigator confusing me into thinking the speed zone is over.

I forget where I was, but it was another one of those long, wet runs. What he said was "500 finish speed zone", not "finish speed zone". Too late, I stepped on it. When that happens, the race is lost, you'll never make up that time (probably longer than the race itself). So I restart and all is going well, until later in the race where I blew it in a 30 zone. Just briefly in the red, but it would cost me the race. So I uttered incantations that would shock beezleboob himself and quit lol

Similarly, if you get irrevocably stuck and have to go back to the last checkpoint, that'll give you like a 15 minute penalty. In that case it's probably OK, because the doofus rookie mode contestants are going to get just as stuck lol

What a retarded thing to have in a racing game, and to add insult... make it unforgiving (dinged for 1 km/h over the limit, instantly) and make it ruinously costly.

They are in the real Dakar do I get why the speed zones are there....... They are just implemented VERY poorly in the game..... On Rookie difficulty the AI should drive through the speed zones like it does through the checkpoints....... Then you would ONLY need to worry about the start of the speed zones....... Trying to keep the vehicle on 30 or 50 km/h on a controller is freaking hard...... You spend the whole time during the speed zone watching the speedo to make sure you dont speed that you miss turns and run into buildings and trees.......

And if they couldnt be bothered coding AI to drive through the speed zones then give us a speed limit button like nearly every other racing game has for pit lane speed limits........ Its really not that hard..... Even EA can do it......

The difficulty settings in this game are poor....... I dont get why we cant have a "custom" difficulty and tweak things to how we like it...... Im a big proponent of the more settings we have for gameplay and difficulty the better it is for everyone.......

Ive put over 200 hours into the game so for me its still really good and worth playing for me...... But it does have a lot of short comings as well.......

Its still better than Paris-Dakar Rally on the PS2........

Hell, my car doesn't like to go 30 km/h. Most of the time it idles higher than that (foot off gas it would go faster). It's just the wrong speed for automatic transmissions too. I wouldn't do it unless I really need to (e.g. gauntlet of parked cars, pedestrians, school crossing etc. where the posted speed limit may even be too fast for the situations).

In fact I won't drive 50 km/h under normal circumstances. That's the speed limit on most town and city streets. I don't pay too much attention to speed limits, I make my own decisions. It's rare to get a ticket and when you do, the cop usually apologetically reduces it to a lower offense. I drive like a bastard and I've got a completely clean driving record right now (I haven't had a speeding ticket in probably 20 years)

I'm sure there are speed zones in rally races, but I'm also sure you don't get dinged for going 31 km/h for a split second. They realize that the engines in racing cars are neither made, nor geared for that horseshit.

In real life I think it's cumulative distance over the speed limit that is punished.

E.g. travel for 500 meters 1km/h above the speed limit - only then do you get a fine or time penalty.

i am now very concerned about the sport event i never knew about before. also, this game is crazy but also bordering on "this is the most video game. this is what old people mean when they talk about how stupid video games are. there are giant crows bombarding you with eggs in this paris dakar rally game"

So then, sounds like a game you would enjoy? :-)

(Please don't blow me up for that! It's just that "birds bombarding with eggs" thing lol)

It's one of the more notorious kusoge*, really.

*A Japanese contraction of "kuso geemu", meaning "shit game". It very specifically refers to stuff like this. And Transformers: Convoy no Nazo. And so on.
