Crystal Lake Raceway…….
Crystal Lake Speedway is 0.750 miles long with 12 degrees of banking……. This very fast track with tight turns at either end really requires a well balanced car…….. Lots of power for the long two straights and really good handling for the right turns in between……. The concrete barriers are like Jason Voorhees…… They are ready to kill the championship hopes of any one who dares touch them…….
Dick continues his winning ways in the opening round of the Weekly Dirt Racing Series……… He racked up yet another win at Dundas County Fairgrounds yesterday….. Dick led all 50 laps in a total dominating performance and he has gotten off to a great start on Dicks quest for a three peat of Weekly Dirt Racing Series Championships…...

2005 Weekly Dirt Racing Series: Round 1 of 10…...
Jason Sulivan will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing second place finish last week to kick start his championship defence campaign….. William Anderson and Joel York will be looking to get closer to Dick……… Meanwhile Dick comes to Crystal Lake Raceway looking for another win……. Will Dick dominate again like he did at Dennison Speedrome last week???……. or will Jason Voorhees perform a circumcision on Dick????.........
Dont touch the sets...... Dont touch the dials...... You wont want to miss a single moment of the 2005 Featherlite Modified Series....… Practice and qualifying are coming up right now……

Dick Trickle at the track ready to race.…
Dick Trickle set about setting the car up for this very fast track…….. He spent a lot of time working on the gear ratios and making sure he was not going to blow up his engine……. The car had changed a lot since he was here last year and he almost had to start from scratch…….. He seems happy when practice was over and Dick had a knowing smile on his face……..
Qualifying was up next……… And Dicks knowing smile proved he knew he had a fast car…….. As he demolished the competition in qualifying……. Posting a record time of 21.686…….. To easily claim pole position for the race…….
In a VERY distant second was last years champion Jason Sulivan who was a astonishing 2 second behind Dick……. Setting a time of 23.608…….
Third was Francis Lee who was only 0.4 seconds behind Jason Sulivan with a time of 24.080…….. Fourth was Joel York who put up a 24.207……
Rounding out the top five was William Anderson who set a time of 24.470………. He had a lot of work to do to catch Dick……. Who just put the entire field on notice……..
Jason Sulivan was not happy after qualifying and had a good hard look at the Grinch Performance Modified Flaming Dick Machine……. Shaking his head and muttering to himself as he stared at the car……. Sulivan finally walked away looking really dejected…...

Dick Trickle lined up ready to start the race......
Dick lead the field as the green flag waved to start the 50 lap race…… As Dick and Jason Sulivan had their usual drag race down the turn one……..
Dick took the lead entering turn one……. With Francis Lee following Dick through the inside to take second place……..
William Anderson was working over Joel Yorks rear as they continued their usual battle for fourth…….
Dick squirted off into the distance and had a massive lead after a few laps……. And was also starting to lap cars…… Crystal Lake Raceway is very wide and makes it getting passed lapped cars very easy……… And no one was going to hold up the Grinch Performance Modified Flaming Dick Machine today………...
Francis Lee had his work cut out for him to keep Jason Sulivan behind him…… As Sulivan was all over his rear……. So much so that we almost had the censor the footage……. Sulivan was desperate to get around Lee but Lee was just doing to enough to fend off Sulivans advances…..
Up front and it was Dick still leading the field……. And had already lapped the entire field…… And was looking to put the entire field down 2 laps before the half way mark…… Dick was in a league of his own……. And it was already looking like his race to lose…….
Further back in the pack William Anderson and Joel York were trying to sort out their differences as they battled hard for fourth as per usual…… They were constantly swapping positions and nothing could separate them…….
And nothing could separate Jason Sulivan from Francis Lees rear……. Their race long battle was reaching fever pitch……. Lee was doing a fantastic job of defending the race long pressure from behind……
At the half way point and Dick was well out in front…… With a commanding 2 lap lead over second place……. Francis Lee was holding down third while Jason Sulivan was all over his rear like a horny teenager……
Likewise William Anderson was just holding off Joel York for fourth place…. As they had done almost the entire season last year…….. Its been fascinating to watch…….
With 20 laps to go there was a huge plume of smoke around the track…….. As Clark Oakenfolds engine exploded in spectacular fashion……… Oakenfold dove quickly to the apron of the track to avoid getting to much oil on the racing surface……..
In doing so he cut across the front of second placed Francis Lee causing Lee to slow up a tiny bit to avoid the stricken Oakenfold……. Jason Sulivan who was still right behind Lee did not need a second invitation and darted up to the outside and swept past Lee who was getting back up to speed…….
Francis Lee did not have the raw pace to keep in contact with Jason Sulivan who had managed to put a decent gap between himself and Lee……. And it now looks like the battle for second is now over…….
The battle for fourth was also over as William Anderson hit a bit of oil left on the track by Oakenfold……. That made the rear of the car step out and almost caused Anderson to crash…… He managed to gather it up but lost a lot of time is doing so and that allowed Joel York to get through into fourth place and likewise drive away from Anderson……
As the chequered flag waved to end the race…… Dick dominated the field to lead all 50 laps totally unchallenged for the easy win………. He was so fast even Jason Voorhees couldnt catch him……..
Second was last years champion Jason Sulivan……. Who spent most of the race staring at Francis Lees rear end…… He will need to do a lot of work to do to catch Dick……. Sulivan was 4 laps behind Dick in todays race……
Third was Francis Lee who was left feeling very dejected at how that race ended for him…… He did a great job keep Francis Lee behind him for so long…… But in the end it was not to be……. Lee was also 4 laps behind the winner……
Fourth was Joel York who managed to keep out of trouble had another solid race……. His battle with William Anderson was very entertaining……. But he really needs to pick up the pace if he wants to challenge for wins…… York was a massive 5 laps behind the winner…..
Rounding out the top five was William Anderson…… Who was left ruing a missed opportunity to take fourth place…… He has been lacking speed since winning the Featherlight Modified Championship two years ago…….. Anderson was also 5 laps behind Dick……..

Race Results..…
After the race Dick did his signature burn out down the main straight as the crowed went nuts…….. Smoke bellowed from the tyres as Dick celebrated his win……..
After the race Dick finally made his way to victory lane…….. Where Dick was fully embraced by Pussy Galore…… I was able to grab Dick for a word……. “That was pretty awesome hey Murray……. This puts us in good stead for the championship….. As long as the Grinch Performance Modified Flaming Dick Machine keeps purring like a Pussy Galore…….. They wont be able to stop me…….”
“There was no problems with the traffic out there today Murray…….. This track is nice and wide and its very easy to get passed them without losing much time…… If any…….. Whoever designed this track knew what they were doing…………”
“two races and two wins…… Cant start better than that…….. I want this title so bad after being screwed of it last year…… I wont let anyone stand in my way…….. [Jason] Sulivan keeps getting these second places which is really annoying…… Means I cant open up the gap I had hoped for……. I guess that just means I need to keep winning races…...”
“Next week we are at Welch Valley Racing Complex….. I had a really good win their last year and I think I will be bale to do it again no problems……. I just need to stay focused on the job at hand and not get to far ahead of myself……. And right now the job at hand is to get some of that sweet Pussy Galore victory action…….”
Well there you have it folks…….. Dick is back in true dominating form and I dont think Pussy Galore will have to work hard tonight to get that Dick excited…….
Next week the 2005 Featherlite Modified Series heads to Welch Valley Racing Complex….. The first visit to the road course this year……
Can Dick repeat the performance he had there last year???……. Can last years champion Jason Sulivan pull a rabbit out of the hat and take a magical win????……. Or can Francis Lee surprise us all and get in the mix???……...
Tune in next week for the answers to all these questions and more….. Exclusively here on Left Turn Heaven……..
This is Murray Eastlake reporting for Left Turn Heaven..... And until next time its goodbye from me....

C'mon Aussie C'mon…. C’mon…….. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uBjJAV3CMk)
The graphics…… Are actually really good for the PS1……. I mean there is not a lot graphically to the game…… Its a few guys standing on a huge flat oval………. With that grandstands around the edge……. But it does look really nice……. The textures are good also……. Even the player models and animations are great for the time…….
The sounds……. The sounds are also great……. Its got some real commentators doing the play by play which is a little sparse and stilted but its PS1…… Even madden on the PS1 had issues with commentary……. The sounds of the bat on ball and the ball clattering into the stumps is really good……. The cloud noise is ok……. And even the chatter between the batsmen when taking a run is good…….
The controls……. Are fine….. Nothing special but also nothing bad……. Its what you would expect from a PS1 cricket game……. The batting feels really good and the bowling is also perfectly find control wise (will get more into that in the gameplay section)……. The controls are responsive and it never feels like the game is controlling you…...
The storyline….. There is no storyline……. So I again get to make one up…….. April O’Neil has been kidnapped by Daddles the duck and its up to the Ninja Turtles to rescue her……. The turtles call on their old Australian friend Saxton Hale(https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Saxton_Hale) to help teach them the sport of cricket so they can win back April O’Neil…….. And stop Daddles the ducks evil plans……..
The gameplay……... Is well…… Its cricket……. And it plays really well….. The batting is fantastic with lots of control over shot selection and finding the gaps……. And the running between wickets is easy to do……..
The bowling is a mixed bag…… It feels OK and controls fine but if you bowl a proper line and length you wont get the AI out and you will have to resort to exploiting the AI by bowling balls you know they cant handle as that seems to be almost the only way to get wickets……
I find its best to just skip the bowling because of those issues and just end up batting instead……. I cant think of a single cricket game that has good bowling…….. It seems to be a universal problem…...
Other than that the gameplay is great……… Its great fun to play……
Overall…….. Shane Warne Cricket ‘99 is a fantastic game…… One of if not the best cricket game ever made……. If you are interested in playing a cricket video game then Shane Warne Cricket ‘99 is a fantastic choice…….
And that is why my final score for Shane Warne Cricket '99 is a Diet pill out of 10………

Shane Warne Cricket ‘99 World Cup……..
This game has some really cool features in its World Cup game mode……. From not just having the same teams in it every single time……. To being able to select the host nation……… Its a nice difference from the EA “World Cup” game modes that are locked to a single tournament with the exact same pool teams and host nation every single time……. It might be “official” but it does kill off any long term replayability…….
So I of course selected to play as Australia and also picked 20 over matches…….. and since the 2023 World Cup is in India I selected India as the host nation…………
Spiders History Lesson
Australia went into the 1999 World Cup in England with not a lot of hope surrounding the team….. They were in a bad form slump and had just gone through a raft of changes…… Australian captain Mark “Tubby” Taylor was dropped from the side and Steve Waugh replaced him as the captain of the side……. He was also well out of form going into the tournament……
But as long as you have Glen McGrath and Shane Warne you can never be fully counted out of any tournament………
Australia just barely scrapped through the Pool stage…… Tying with New Zealand and West Indies on 6 points and needing to use their superior net run rate to stay in the tournament and move on to the Super Six rounds……
As the tournament went on Australian began to improve……. And made it past the Super Six stage second on the table just behind Pakistan on net run rate…………. It was not easy but they were starting to hit their stride…… In the final Super Six round match South African Herschelle Gibbs dropped a catch that kept Steve Waugh in at bat in Australias must win Super Six match which proved to be the pivotal point of the tournament….. As not only did Steve Waugh end up making 120 not out that won the match for Australia….… But it would prove to be very costly for South Africa in the very next match…….
Australia played South Africa again in the Semi Final….. In what became the best match of the tournament……. Anyone who remembers the 1999 Cricket World Cup remembers this match…… The match ended in spectacular fashion when the scores were tied and South Africa with just 1 wicket left needed 1 run with 4 balls remaining in the match to go through to the final……. A draw would see Australia go through because they finished higher on the Super Six table than South Africa thanks in part to that dropped catch from the previous match………
The South African batsmen lost their collective minds and screwed it all up well and truly and Allan Donald was run out…... the game ended in a tie in the most dramatic game in Cricket World Cup history…….. (no over time in cricket back in 1999)…….
The 1999 World Cup Final was nowhere near as exciting…… As Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat…… Pakistan collapsed like a house of cards to be all out for 132 off 39 overs…….. And Australia cruised to 133 of 20.1 overs while losing just two wickets…… Steve Waugh hoisted the World Cup Trophy as Australia became the 1999 World Cup Champions…… They would also be the champions in the following 2 World Cups in 2003 and 2007……. As Australia became a totally unstoppable force in cricket in the early to late 2000’s…….
Can the virtual Australians follow in their foot steps???……. Will they hoist the virtual Cricket World Cup……. Or will another team rise up and take revenge???……..

Australia vs Scotland……….
Scotland won the toss and elected to bowl…… And they got off to a great start……. In the first over they got Mark Waugh out for a first ball duck……… In the second over they got the wicket of Mark Taylor who was out for just 6 runs……. Australia was 2/19 and were in real trouble……. Steve Waugh and Michael Beaven began a new partnership to try and save Australia and save Australia they did……..
Steve Waugh belted the Scottish bowlers all around Calcutta……. Smashing fours and sixes with ease while showing no mercy as he put on a master class of batting……. Finishing the innings on 230 not out……. Michael Beaven was playing a great supporting role to Steve Waugh as he was more inclined the knocked the ball around and get singles to keep Steve Waugh on strike……. While also picking up the odd boundary or two…….. Beaven finished the innings 80 not out……. As Australia finished their 20 over innings 2/331……..
Scotland was never in the hunt as the wickets tumbled throughout the innings…… Glen McGrath took 5 wickets and Steve Waugh took 2 wickets as Scotland were all out for 51 of 11 overs…… Australia won the match by 280 runs…….

Australia vs South Africa…..
Mark “Tubby” Taylor was dropped from the side after his poor performance last match……. Michael Di Venuto took his spot…… He hit three bounteries in the first three deliveries and then played all around a nice ball from Shaun Pollock to be bowled for 12……
Brothers Mark Waugh and Steve Waugh set about righting the ship…….. With Mark Waugh making a very nice half century before he was bowled by Lance Klusener……….
Michael Beaven made a quick fire 8 before getting himself out……. Which brought Greg Blewett to the crease for the first time this tournament……. He made a very nice 36 not out in the closing stages of the innings……
Steve Waugh again put on another excellent batting performance…….. Steve ended with 120 not out…… As Australia ended the innings 3/227……….
In reply South Africa just couldnt keep pace with the required run to be a real threat…… Australia put on a great tight bowling display to restrict South Africa to just 124 runs……. While only taking two wickets…….
Australia won the match by 103 runs…….

I was far too young for the games at the time, but had nonetheless heard of them via games magazines like Computer & Video Games (or "CVG" for short). One entry in the series didn't get covered by those magazines back then, and I didn't know that it even existed until I was an adult and had taken an interest in the library of the Nintendo Entertainment System, and its Japanese equivalent the Famicom, due to the NES not having made an especially big impact in the UK during its time: Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti - a cutesy, chibi-style spoof of the mainline entries in the series, which also acts as a prequel to the first game.

Fellow GOL'er StoneColdSpider also played and recommended it to me last Halloween, but I'd already made my picks for last year by then, so I skipped it. However, a few weeks ago, I nabbed the two NES collections, Namco Museum Archives Volume 1 and 2*, in a Fanatical sale, and ended up with Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti (whose first-ever release outside of Japan is in Volume 1 of this collection) in my Steam library. So, that's my pick for this week! I've never played it before, and have never even seen any footage of it, so it's something that I'll be going into totally blind. (I have another game for which I'll be going in blind soon, too, but I want to devote the proper time to it without my Halloween picks getting in the way, so I'm saving it for the start of November. )
*I picked these up because Steam is surprisingly badly-off for emulator-wrapped arcade-game re-releases, and for some games the only versions available on Steam are old console conversions, as with the two NES collections above. On consoles there are many more options released by HAMSTER Corporation in their Arcade Archives and ACA Neo Geo series, but on PCs they only sell on the Windows Store, which is a no-go for us Linuxers and for Steam Deck users, unfortunately. I do wish that they'd bring them over, since they'd be excellent on the Steam Deck.

Exactly one month after release, Super Bomberman R 2 (Proton) has seen a small (~40MB) update to address a few bugs and some common annoyances with the multiplayer component - mainly, it raises the in-game Gems currency earned from offline matches from 50 to 100, and it removes the much-maligned Nintendo-style ruleset rotation* from online-with-randoms, allowing users to pick which mode they want to play instead of having to make time to be online during specific daily timeslots for specific modes, with the only things now on rotation being stage-types and, for Grand Prix mode, whether the game-type is Crystals or Basic Bomber.
*Nintendo does this in the Splatoon games, and in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Unlike Nintendo, when people complained about it Konami and HexaDrive immediately removed the misfeature, instead of doubling down on it and continuing with it to this day like Nintendo did.
With the latter now addressed (which wasn't something I personally found to be a big quibble, but I do fully understand others' annoyance with it, and do nonetheless see it as a big improvement), I'll now be able to attack the two online modes where I don't yet have Grandmaster status head-on, without having to clock-watch for specific timeslots throughout the day. One thing that I do find to be a quibble was not addressed and is not likely to be - that being the fact that some of the unlockable player badges and titles are tied to playing online - but this fix does help with that considerably.
Dracula Bomber and Solid Snake Bomber (along with a few others, but these two are the most relevant right now since Castlevania Nocturne recently debuted on Netflix, and Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 is out later this month) are still absent, but going by how the previous two modern Bomberman games have been handled, I'm confident that we'll see a meaty content-update further along the line that will address this.

And, of course, there is Pac-Man, via Arcade Game Series: Pac-Man (Proton), because it's October and there's ghosts in it.
Pac-Man was my very first video game hero, and also the character and series that popularised the maze-chase* genre (contrary to popular belief, Pac-Man was not the first maze-chase game - that honour goes to Heiankyo Alien ), so it's always good to play and reminisce!
*A brief explanation, for anyone unfamiliar with this once-huge but now oft-forgotten genre: Maze-chase doesn't just mean that the game is set in a maze. Rather it refers to games set in a maze, where the protagonist is outnumbered and outgunned, and has limited power to fight back, which must be used strategically - this is where the chase part comes from, since the hero is often being pursued or cornered in some fashion.
Unlike some other famous arcade-games of that era, Pac-Man still holds up and is still fun today. Along with Space Invaders, it is the foundation of the definition of "video games as video games" - that is, doing things that can't be done in real-life or in any other form of media.

Happy Birthday again! The question is, did you have a Spider-Cake?
Spider-Cake, Spider-Cake, nastier than a rusty rake. It's the disease those GOL'ers just can't shake! Here comes the Spider-Cake!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Perhaps it's just me, but I see providing alternate scenarios as part of the point of sports video games. What next, the leading brand will only allow the outcomes to be identical to the real-life matches or else they don't count?
The presentation in this game is really good.
I'm still convinced that it IS the same woman - they look incredibly similar!

The lack of a lives system is odd, though - I think that they should've been more conventional with that aspect of it.
Overall, I like how it doesn't try to be any more than it is - a goofy, cartoonish take on the source-material, that isn't taking itself seriously at all*. Top marks for the cool art in the manual, too!
*With gaming hurtling headlong into another edgelord-era at the moment (obligatory"GRIMDARK" Terrible Writing Advice video here ), this sort of thing is very welcomed by me.
Hahaha!
And I just got to "Diamond Lake" (totally legally-distinct, honest!) in Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti, too!
Oh... So THAT was what they meant when they made their slogan "It's in the Game"...

I had to include ol Dick in that!.....
I do need to play that again for this Halloween........
Just remember that slogan was originally..... "If its in the game...... Its in the game".......
Cant have any imagination in a sports game.....

You do!
I actually didn't know that! I've never really been a fan of sports-games, at least the conventional kind.
Of course not.

I do not like the SNES controller at all but it was fun.
We also managed to get a few rounds of Virtua Fighter 3TB via ReDream on Android while traveling to our Halloween events.
