Intro music…... Hello and welcome to Left Turn Heaven….. Im Murray Eastlake and today im going to be bringing you all the action from the 2005 Featherlite Modified Series: Round 5 of 11 here at ELK River Raceway……..



ELK River Raceway…….

ELK River Raceway is 1.00 miles long with a variation of banking at both ends of the track…… This track has a large bend in “back straight” that gives it a rather unique “D” shape…….. It has long straights and with rather open turns one and two while turns three and four are very tight…….. With such a difference between each end of the track car setup is critical here…….

Last night Dick Trickle was at the Baxter Fairgrounds Raceway for the Weekly Dirt Racing Series…….. Dick won the race quite comfortably…… Keeping his perfect record for the year in tact…… No one seems to be able to challenge the Infogrames Flaming Dick Machine…… Dick then drove through the night to be here today for the Featherlite Modified Series race…… This Dick wont take a rest……..


2005 Weekly Dirt Racing Series: Round 5 of 10…...


Dick continues to dominate the Featherlite Modified Series……. Gray Soros and Mike Hemeseth have found some good form now and both will be looking for a win to cement their championship contender status…… Joel York is still very much in the hunt as well as he continues to pick up top five finishes……. While Last years champion Jason Sulivan sits down in ninth place in the championship standings…….. He desperately needs wins to catch Dick now……

Dont touch the sets...... Dont touch the dials...... You wont want to miss a single moment of the 2005 Featherlite Modified Series....… Practice and qualifying are coming up right now……


Dick Trickle at the track ready to race.…


Dick as per usual used up all the allotted practice time……. He worked on the cars setup the entire time….. Did a lot of laps and worked really hard on trying to find a good balance between the two very different turns at each end of the track……

Qualifying was up next……. And Dick did it again…… Setting a fantastic time of 24.576…….. He was 1.5 seconds clear of second place who this week was John Bundy with a 26.042…….

Third was Gray Soros continuing his great recent form……. He set a 26.344…….. Fourth was Jason Sulivan who set a time of 26.592…….

And rounding out the top five was Jason Kausch with a 26.830……. Good to see another new name in the top five……. Its getting very competitive out there now…...

Joel York a usual front runner was down in ninth…… While Francis Lee was twelfth just in front of William Anderson who was thirteenth…….

Jason Sulivan once again grabbed the official and tried his best to get Dicks car disqualified……. And just like last week I say that Jason Sulivan needs to concentrate on his own car instead of Dicks…….

And also just like last week the race official gave the car the thumbs up……. And that has left Jason Sulivan absolutely ropeable…….. Giving the official an absolute spray as he storms off……. Jason Sulivan has lost the plot…...



Qualifying Results....…..



Dick Trickle lined up ready to start the race......

Dick led the field as the green flag dropped for the start of the 50 lap race….. Dick got a good start along with John Bundy who was right beside Dick as they entered turn one……..

Gray Soros was not far behind……. And Jason Sulivan was just able to hold onto fourth place from a hard charging Jason Kausch…….

Down the not so straight back straight and John Bundy was all over Dick…… With Gray Soros all over the rear of Bundy…… It was a great scrap by the top three runners…….

Through the tight turn two and Dicks setup proved to be the difference as he was able to carry way more speed than either John Bundy or Gray Soros to take the clear lead heading on the front straight.…..

Jason Sulivan was still having trouble with Jason Kausch….. As Kausch was all over Sulivan like a rash……. Sulivan does not need to enter a real scrap for fourth as that would allow the leading trio to build a big gap…….

Further back and Joel York was still in ninth…… With Francis Lee and William Anderson not making up any ground either……. The three on them where in for a long and frustrating afternoon unless things changed……

Up front and Dick was gone……. After he got the heat into the tyres the Grinch Performance Modified Flaming Dick Machine was a rocket…… John Bundy could only watch as Dick disappeared into the distance…….

John Bundy also had to keep an eye on the mirror……. As Gray Soros was still right their ready to pounce if Bundy made a mistake or had a lapse of concentration……

Meanwhile the two Jasons were having a ding dong battle for fourth…… With Jason Sulivan only just managing keep Jason Kausch at bay…… But it seems like only a matter of time before Kausch will get past……

At the half way stage Dick was in complete command of the race….. He had the whole field one lap down……. And only the mice eating the machinery could stop Dick now……..

John Bundy and Gray Soros were still locked in a titanic battle for second…… With Bundy defending as if his life depended on it…….. Soros was still looking very dangerous though……

The two Jasons had swapped positions now as Jason Kausch finally found a way past Jason Sulivan who had trouble with a pack of lapped cars and Kausch seized the opportunity and took fourth place…… Jason Sulivan was now the one of the attack and trying to find a way past Kausch…….

Meanwhile Joel York has made up zero position and was still way down in ninth…….. Probably his worst performance of the year……. Francis Lee and William Anderson also had made up no positions and were still way down in twelfth and thirteenth respectively……..

Coming down to the last ten laps and Dick is still well out in front…….. With John Bundy and Gray Soros still fighting hard for second…….. And….. And…… AND THERES SMOKE!!!…… Someones engine has blown up………

Its Clark Oakenfold…… Who has left a trail of smoke around the track……… He was down in seventeenth so its not going to affect the results much……... But that is still such a shame for Oakenfold…… Who in the nicest way possible is not very fast but he really does enjoy his racing…...

The smoke made it difficult to see for a few laps……. And Jason Kausch took advantage of the low visibility and managed to pull out a gap between himself and Jason Sulivan who was now firmly in fifth position……

Second was still John Bundy who had spent almost the entire race defending the position from Gray Soros who had spent almost the entire race attacking Bundy…….. The smoke did not help Soros who was still not able to find a way past Bundy……. With only a few laps left time is running out for Soros…...

The miserable day for Joel York, Francis Lee and William Anderson continued……. I dont think any of them are going to gain any places in the race……. What a disappointing day for the three of them……

As the chequered flag waved to end the race it was Dick with yet another dominating performance who took the win……. Its going to be hard for anyone to stop Dick now……. Unless Dick prematurely celebrates there is no stopping him this year…….

Second was John Bundy…… Who just managed to hold onto second…… Bundy will be really pleased with that result…… He spent the entire race defending hard to keep that second place……. He might have been 2 laps behind Dick……. But a second place is a second place…..

Third was Gray Soros who must be sick of seeing the back of John Bundys car by now…… He spent the entire race staring at the back of that car……. He was never able to find a way past it…… And boy did he try hard throughout the race…… But it was not to be……. He will still be happy with third……. Soros was 2 laps behind Dick……

Fourth was Jason Kausch who picked up his first top five finish of the season…… And not a bad way to do it either……. Passing and defending the position from last years champion…… That will do his confidence the world of good……. Kausch was also 2 laps laps behind Dick……..

Fifth was last years champion Jason Sulivan……. Who just never got going in the race……. He spent most of it defending from Jason Kausch and was not able to focus forward to give the top three any problems today……. He will be very disappointed in this fifth place finish…….. He was three laps behind Dick……..

Joel York, Francis Lee and William Anderson had days to forget thats for sure……. They had no real pace is qualifying and they had the same pace in the race…… Not gaining any spots at all during the race and finishing down in ninth, twelfth and thirteenth respectively……...



Race Results..…


After the race Dick did a huge burnout down the front straight……. The crowed was going nuts……. A massive “Dick” chant broke out through the grandstand as the tyre smoke bellowed from the Grinch Performance Modified Flaming Dick Machine…….

After the burnout Dick finally found victory lane and made his way there……. Dicks wife Pussy Galore was the first to embrace Dick after he got out of the car……. I managed to catch Dick and got a word with the winner…….

“Thats another win Murray and that is another step closer to be the 2005 Featherlite Modified Series Champion……. I just need to stay focused and not prematurely get ahead of myself Murray……”

“The car was awesome today Murray…… After a few laps and I got the heat into the tyres it was on rails…… The crew did another fantastic job prepping the car for this race……. And that really does make my job a whole lot easier….. Without them I wouldnt be able to run the Dirt Series race last night and win……. And then come here to race in the Featherlite Modified Series and win again today…….”

“As for [Jason] Sulivan and his love of getting the officials to look at the car again and again and again…… We all know he cant handle the pressure this Dick is applying……. And hes starting to get a few loose roos in the top paddock ……. Looking at the qualifying and the race results he would be better off sorting his own car out then being so worried about mine……..”

“He was three laps behind me today…… And he was even lapped by [John] Bundy and [Gray] Soros…… Hes not going to get close to winning the championship if hes getting lapped those those two as well……. Hopefully he can catch the loose roos in the top paddock and sort his crap out…….”

“Next week we are back at Dennison…… Should be be a very interesting race on that small bull ring circuit…… There is nowhere to hide on that circuit thats for sure…….. But I will just concentrate on my own race and keeping the car nice and clean and straight…… If I can do that it should be another great result for us……. I will see you there Murray”

Well there you have it folks…….. That is one happy Dick…….

Next week the 2005 Featherlite Modified Series heads to Dennison Speedrome….. The second and final time we will visit that track this season……..

Will Dick continue his domination of the field???……. Can Gray Soros continue his great form and maybe even challenge for a win???……. Can John Bundy back up his excellent race here and go one better next week????……. Can Jason Sulivan capture the loose roos and sort himself out or will he continue to capitulate under pressure of Dick???…….

Australia vs France


The Wallabies came in as strong favourites to win the World Cup…….. But France was not going to just hand it to them……. It was a tight tussle early on….. The Wallabies managed to score a try just after the 10 minute mark to take a 7 point lead…….

Then disaster for the French…… Serge Betsen was shown the yellow card for a dangerous tackle…… France was now down a man against this formidable Australian side……

The Wallabies took full advantage…….. Scoring three tries while France was a man down…… Ballooning the gap out from 7 points to 28 points…… France was in dire trouble and needed some magic to give them a spark…….

But in trying to get something going they made a lot of mistakes and were handing great field position to this dangerous Wallabies side……. And they didnt need a second invitation to score a try before the half time break…… At half time the score was 35-0…….. The game was all but over……..

France kept trying but were no match for the Wallabies in the final….. To many forced passes causing a lot of handling mistakes and just handing the ball over to the Wallabies……. The Wallabies dominated possession…….

France were out on their feet from all the tackling they had to make and the Wallabies ran riot in the last 20 minutes much to the Frances embarrassment…... As Lote Tuqiri scored nine tries as the Wallabies racked up 10 tries in total to hand France a humiliating defeat in their home World Cup Final…….

Australia ran out easy winners 70-0…….. Serge Betsens yellow card was the turning point of the game that France could never recover from……..

Australia have won the 2007 World Cup in truly dominating form……. They went through the entire tournament undefeated…… Showed a lot of composure to win the close Quarter Final and Semi Final match……. And then blew the French out of the water in the World Cup Final…….

The French will have to rename the stadium to the “Slaughterhouse” after that performance…….

Australia vs Zimbabwe……….


Australia won the toss and elected to bowl……. And it was a very good call…… Australia decimated the Zimbabwe battling lineup…… Damien Fleming was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 wickets….. McGrath and Dale took 2 wickets each….. As Zimbabwe crumbled to be all out for just 102 off 15.2 overs…….

Michael Di Venuto and Mark Waugh come out to starting the innings for Australia……. And what a start they got…… Di Venuto smashed 30 off the first over……. With Mark Waugh also getting in on the action in the second over…….

Heath Streak and Eddo Brandes were humiliated by the two openers as they scored at will….. And after just two over the game looked well and truly over…….

Michael Di Venuto finished 54 not out with Mark Waugh 50 not out as both openers got a half century with ease…….

0/104 after just 5.4 overs as Australia won the match very convincingly by 10 wickets……. And sent a strong message to the remaining teams in the World Cup……. With Damien Fleming named man of the match……..
