The Stardew Valley Appreciation Thread!
Pengling Jul 2
I just felt like making a thread to pay tribute to everyone's favourite farming-life simulator, Stardew Valley, so here we go!

After I ditched Nintendo and moved all of my gaming over to Linux instead, Stardew Valley ended up occupying the same space as both Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter Generations, for me, which raised a smile!

I've been enjoying the game a ton - I like how there's no right or wrong way to do things, and it's very chilled-out for the most part - though I found the Desert Festival monster-slaying tasks unexpectedly challenging since I don't spend a lot of time in the mines back home!

I'm not big on spending time on fancy paths and whatnot, so my farm still looks a bit tumbledown!

I've enjoyed it so much so far that I've gifted the game to relatives and picked up some of the merchandise, as well (pictured is one of the chicken pillow-plushes from Sanshee, the Junimo plush set from Fangamer, and the official cookbook ).

I was lucky enough to get the rare alien event recently, too. I haven't seen it in the wild since it hatched, though!

Got any good Stardew Valley anecdotes, screenshots, farm setups, or tributes to share? Please do so!

Hahaha, oh man, that is an awesome farm!

Because I figured I'd enjoy the fishing mechanics (and I do!), mine's the riverside type, so I don't have a single big expanse of land like you do since there's a river winding through it - though on the other side of that coin, I do quite well out of fish and crab-pots.

Yeah..... Thats my original character from day 1 of the games release...... So well before the other farm options were available........

Like you ive mostly been a fisherman so if I was to start again I would also go with the river farm........ But I also have slave Junimos so........ Swings and roundabouts I guess......

Have you made anything from the cookbook?

Stardew Valley is awesome, but I wish that there was cross-save somehow. It'd be cool to go back and forth between different platforms.

Nah, not yet - not had the time, unfortunately, and there's a surprising amount of fairly complicated recipes in there that I probably wouldn't want to make, which I didn't expect! Still worth it for the lovely illustrations, photographs, and nuggets of lore, though.

That's always a nice feature - I wonder if it's possible for them to pull it off?

My current farm:
Spoiler, click me

Grumpybutt Farm, late Spring Year 3

I started this playthrough when v1.6 first dropped, and it's the first time I've played since 2019, which was (checks notes) v1.3.36, so a lot has changed. I've been playing on and off since v1.0 (which worked perfectly using wine).

Fun fact: before Stardew was released (circa 2012), my partner and I used to play on a Harvest Moon BTN/[M]FoMT-themed Minecraft server (called HarvestCraft) with Eric Barone, and he sometimes shared ideas about the game he was making, so when he officially announced Stardew we were already pretty hyped about the game. He was a pretty cool guy even then.

Oh wow, it looks awesome! Mine will never be that tidy, I guarantee it, hahaha!

Everything I've seen makes him sound like a lovely bloke. Even recently, there was this report about him stating that he'll never charge for DLC or updates as long as he lives - and even if that only applies to Stardew Valley and not his future titles, that's still awesome, since he certainly doesn't owe anyone anything for free.
