Back in 2022 attempting to access Gaming on Linux's website on Wayback Machine would cause a "This URL has been excluded from the Wayback Machine." error. Today it is no longer excluded. Hooray!

Yeah I asked them a few times over the last few years to remove the block, and they finally did so the most recent time I asked.
Great news! It is very useful to use the Wayback Machine to say dig through the LinuxGames archives.

Oh.
I always thought it was Liam trying to hide something.

What would I be trying to hide? Bit weird.

Well it wasn't clear, seemed like a statement of thought rather than a joke ;)

I had no idea, Wayback made arbitrary exclusions like that; that's really stupid considering some of the literal filth they've included in the past.

If you ever want to need your brain bleached from conspiracy-laden/political/gross/far-beyond-adult content, take a look at the archive's hidden collections sometime. That's the kind of stuff that shouldn't be allowed, if anything.

There's an argument to be made that trying to filter content based on how offensive it is defeats the purpose of archiving. Part of preservation is ensuring that we learn from our mistakes. If some shocking political website with asinine views doesn't get archived, that doesn't necessarily make them go away, rather it just makes the dumb things they say harder to retrieve and therefore more difficult to criticize.

True enough. As E.B. Hall once wrote, summarizing Voltaire, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it". Though I was mostly thinking, why archive literal p*** when there's already so much of it out there?
