It's time for a light-hearted cutesy-robot game this weekend, with Doraemon: Nobita no Dorabian Night for the PC Engine.

The game is a colourful platformer by Hudson Soft, and it sees the earless robot cat from the future, Doraemon, having to rescue his friends after they misuse some of his futuristic gadgets and get themselves stuck inside the worlds of various storybooks. It's very loosely tied in with the 1991 movie of the same name, which was released a few months before the game.

Hahaha, that's a new one - a retro-gaming-themed joke, nice idea.

I've played The Spirit and the Mouse for the second time. The game length is probably exactly right – like last time, I feel like it could be slightly longer. There is still something wonky with the light bulb hints. I couldn't find the last four and had to buy at least eight hints to get the map symbols.

It should have healed up by now – it was more than 175 years ago.

What has happened there? Is that supposed to be snow? Very low-res fog? Ice?

It's a nice chilled-out little game. Slightly weird controls in places, but it's from before certain things were standardised in the genre, so it's easily forgivable (for example, you can catch certain ledges by holding Up on the d-pad, but to climb them you have to mash one of the face-buttons - later on, the genre would settle on catching being automatic and climbing up being done by pressing Up or the jump-button). I'm enjoying it so far.
