"Theme Hospital" for free (limited time)

... on Origin.

Yes, Origin. Don't start a riot yet. :)

The following worked flawless for me:

- Create a throw-away Origin account.
- Install Origin client with WINE (1.7.34 works fine here)
- Verification of the email address wasn't necessary, I could download
the game without. So in principle "any" email address should work.
- The game folder is not entangled with the Origin DRM, thus, it can be moved
to any location.
- Works fantastic with CorsixTH.

No offence, but I think it would be far easier for everyone to just spend the $5.99 it would take to purchase Theme Hospital on GOG. com and be done with it. ;)

The problem is: After creating an ORIGIN-account they (Electronic Arts) have some data about you as customer. Even when creating fake information and using for example a trashmail-address this way is a little bit of insecure from my point of view. As Hamish said: Better way to invest some money getting the DRM-free variant from GOG. At last the ORIGIN-way is also not really with DRM, but with some information for example your current, public IP-adress, therefore the ISP and some more things getting through the net at all.

Obviously, being a bit paranoid proved to be the right thing in the course of the recent years.
However, I highly suggest to preserve mental health by not getting too paranoid

... or stay away from the net completely.

You are right, but it is also only some kind of customer-collection from EA going this way. No company in this size on the wide planet give something away without having any kind of exchange. The primary goal is getting more reputation for the platform "Origin" at all. Everybody can decide individually this is worth or not. :)

How could I disagree. :)

Thanks for the short input, sub! :) And thanks for the idea using corsixTH on this way.

@Stan: In fact "Theme Hospital" is not really a Windows (or Mac) game. Originally released for the DOS-platform you could also use the good DOSBOX! With corsixTH in use it is also a really native game (http://forums.corsixth.com/.

Hi there,

now you can get "Syndicate Wars" for free on Origin.

Similar to CorsixTH, there exists a native Linux port via reverse engineering,
that requires the assets of the original game:

Not sure how good it works, though.

That's what I think. In other words, +1.
