The RPG Pathfinder: Kingmaker is out today from Owlcat Games and Deepsilver, sadly the Linux version has some critical bugs.

GOG provided me with a key, so at release today I went to download it only to find no Linux download. When speaking to my GOG contact, they confirmed a critical bug was found where the game will completely crash if you try to load a saved game. This is also confirmed by users on the Steam forum. Due to this, there's no ETA on GOG having any Linux build available and I can't blame them for that, this is down to Owlcat Games to solve.

Issues as major as that at launch really do make me sad. Linux isn't a top platform sure, but to release with such a major flaw as that? Seems like it's not the only major issue too, I won't list them all but it's safe to say it's a very rough release.

Shame, I was really looking forward to this one. The way they described the depth of the lore and gameplay mechanics had me pretty intrigued by it.

Available from GOG, Humble Store and Steam. Not that I recommend buying a mostly broken product, wait until they fix it. I will take a proper look when it is working, hopefully it won't take them long to fix.

It's on my wishlist. I hope you'll notify us when the bug is fixed, so I can grab the game.

This is why I am not in favor of preordering games or even buying them at launch. I usually wait 3 months for patches to fix issues.

Quick, all Linux zealots should storm their forums and make death threats to the developers, their moms, their dogs, and their rabbits! That will show them!
No. Just no.

I am very much aware of that, however I wanted to make it clear that we don't condone that type of behaviour. What did a rabbit ever do? Apart from constantly trying to eat my sofa...

I was hyped for this, even watched out for the release in the middle of work. Hopefully won't be too long before they fix it. Thanks for covering it Liam.

Why? It worked so nicely with Witcher 2

Well technicially Witcher 2 did get fixed. It just cost us all future CD Projekt Red games and possibly Galaxy. Not mention the fact that it probably would have gotten fixed without the threats.......But there's no arguing with results :)

Yeah, a bit silly to release a game in such a state. If you offer a Linux build, you gotta test it before release, too...

Well, I'll download the game and then wait a week or so for it to become playable.

Lucky, I only played for a few minutes after character creation then.

I also had an issue there when trying to write my characters name, every letter i pressed was doubled on the screen. Otherwise, the game looked great and all the various races/classes/skills/feats were quite interesting to someone like me, who likes to fiddle with lots of detail in character building.

I´ll be moving over to "PoE2: Seeker, Slayer, Survivor" until they get things patched.

Thanks for tracking the release and issues. This is on my wish list and saw that it released today; was hoping there would be some info here on how it ran. I will wait for the game to work!

On the steam forums, 1 hour ago the devs said there will be a patch for this on 8 hours "We're not leaving the office until this is solved. "

It seems the linux build is a bit werid, the ELF is named Kingmaker.exe

That does make them sound good, but let's remember issues like this are there because enough testing simply wasn't done. Frankly, loading it up once on Linux would have shown them the issues.

Is there anything stopping GOG Galaxy coming out for Linux with their own proton support by just either compiling it into GOG Galaxy or forking it themselves?

That would be pretty cool but its clear CDPR is not fans of Linux gamers. :(

GOG is certainly missing out on sales and I wonder how things will look in 5yrs time when the Linux Gaming Train arrives, maybe...

Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be another Sword Coast: Legends, which looked absolutely awesome, then fell flat on it's face.
