All are native ports apart from Dear Esther which is another Codeweavers port like LIMBO was before, although this time Ryan 'Icculus' Gordon is making a native port as we speak.

You know the drill pay what you want and get some great games, although it now seems the normal to have a pay more than the average from the start game section too so it's not completely PWYW anymore. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

The "pay above the average to get some of the games" has been there since the first HIB if I recall correctly...

I adjusted the article to show what I meant better.

The originals introduced it later on in the bundles and all previous purchasers got the extra games free, new buyers had to pay more than the average.

Now they do it from the start.

Since the second one during the 2nd week only. Frozenbyte didn't have it. It started to come from day one only in Frozen Synapse. Voxatron had day two BTA. From that day on it was always from the start.

My point still stands, it isn't pay what you want for all of it, it's pay what you want for some, then pay more for the rest.

Holy indie rockstars, Batman...

For me, this is a really strong bundle.  All native ports, except one in the hands of the most trusted porting engineer in the industry!  I've never seen icculus not come through, except when his hands are tied by the client (Epic).

Also, Dear Esther is the one I care least about.  The whole "it's not a game / yes it is" argument piqued my curiosity, so I chose to do a bit of research on it, as I wished to stay current in indie gaming culture.  Since it was not on Linux at release, with no port on the horizon, I went ahead and watched the Yogscast "Let's Play" of it, and thoroughly enjoyed it as an existential cinematic experience.

I think the questions of whether it is or is not a "game" completely miss the point.  As well, it is a lesson on choosing not to whine like an idiot when one chooses not to read reviews before buying ;)

Ok but that's really not new, it's been that way since quite some time, although maybe not from the first HIBs. I think it started with HIB 4 in dec. 2011.
It's been a while that it works this way:
- on first week, pay what you want (at least 1$ for Steam keys) for a bunch of games / beat the average for one or two games
- on second week, some games (usually one new and others from previous bundles) are added in the "pay more than the average" section and are given to buyers of the bundle from the 1st week (even if they didn't pay above the average − but in that case, they still don't get the bonus games from week 1)

Looks like HIB stepped up to the plate for Linux users with this one. It's nice to see that, unfortunately I don't see anything I like. I'm spoiled on Games like Torchlight, Zigfrak and Oil Rush heh. But yeah, high five! =)

Torchlight has been updated too. I hope they've finally fixed the faceless bug.
muntdefems 28 May 2013
Wow, this one is really huge! I think the time has come to start tipping HIB for their bundles again, after I decided against in response of the THQ bundle.

Regarding the 'beat the average' mechanism, abelthorne and Anon are right. Here's the proof for HIBs V, 6 and 7: Humble Indie Bundle V, Humble Indie Bundle 6, Humble Indie Bundle 7.

Am I the only one not terribly enthused by any of these titles?

I don't have anything against them, but none of them seem to justify to me the enthusiasm I am seeing here. Maybe I am missing something, I don't know.

Plus I am rather tapped out at the moment, so I think this is going to be a pass for me.

hotline miami and thomas was alone are really good imo.
rest i dont know that much and dear esther is not a game.

No, you are not. The update in Torchlight is more exciting for me.

I already owned Hotline Miami and completed it, but I don't mind paying again to be honest.

Capsized, I've only played about 10 minutes of it, but it's a pretty fun action platformer with some physics puzzles thrown in -- it was also something that I was hoping to get a Linux port when I first saw the release trailer.

I think the "big" one here is Awesomenauts -- seeing as how Simon Lane (Honeydew, Yogscast) voiced one of the characters and Total Biscuit has covered it a *lot*. It's nothing special for me, I prefer engrossing stories to arcade action; but the port, on the surface, seems well done.

Thomas was Alone was also covered by Nerd3 and got me interested, though I'm not sure how long that will last.

The rest are "meh" for me, Little Inferno came too late as I already beat it in Wine a few months ago and Proteus and Dear Esther are just not really my sort of games. Though I am sure to play them at some point (I didn't know what Proteus was until I launched it).

Also, does anyone know if the Torchlight update fixed the faces? I would love to have that bug free for the start of my holiday this Friday!

I have not confirmed it by myself, but I suppose the fix is included in the last update:

Already owned most of these from either my own earlier purchases from my Windows days, or from Steam for Ubuntu launching. I still threw $25 for Little Inferno and Thomas Was Alone, just slanted it mostly towards charity instead of the devs.

Sadly, Little Inferno doesn't install on Steam. Hopefully they'll rectify that soon.

Weird to see Proteus and Dear Esther in the bundle though, as they're both odd non-games in a way. More interactive experiences both of them. It's good really, because I don't think Dear Esther was worth the money I paid for it originally, so this is a good deal for the curious.

Hmm, that tweet doesn't specifically say it fixes the faces for all classes -- however, digging a bit deeper than asking for the answer on a plate: http://support.humblebundle.com/customer/portal/articles/1148712-torchlight-linux

We have recently released an update for Torchlight on Linux. This new update should resolve most outstanding issues with the game!

So I'd expect it does fix the faces :) Will try it out tonight.

Yeah it has fixed the no face problem :)

Thanks for the confirmation :) Looking forward to actually enjoying the game again!

I don't think so, really.  Well, that it's weird, anyway.  I'll not weigh-in on whether or not they are games, as I don't believe that can be answered, I don't care, and it doesn't matter anyway.  It's not particularly weird because all sorts of bizarre things have been added to bundles, from tech-demos to prototypes to feature-length films ( "Indie Game: The Movie" ).  And then, of course, there's Osada, which was weird as hell, but I did enjoy playing with it as an interactive toy :D
