Taking elements from the likes of Alto's Adventure, BIT.TRIP RUNNER, Dino Run, Canabalt and others we have a new wholesome looking endless-runner with a twist in Horse Runner DX. Made with MonoGame, it has Native Linux support and fully supports the Steam Deck too.
Here you're not just controlling on character, but a herd that you build up as you go. Each of them acts like an extra life for you and they all have different power-ups that will change your run. It's a pretty clever little casual game. And worth a look if you're after something a bit more laid-back.

Speaking about Steam Deck support the developer said: "The game has been extensively tested on the Steam Deck, runs perfectly and looks simply beautiful on the deck's screen. The graphics are pixel-perfect and run at a stable 60 FPS. Input via the integrated Steam Deck Controller is wonderfully responsive. All input methods are also supported on the Steam Deck, and you can switch between them at any time while playing."
Features:
- Simple & Tight Controls - The simple one-button controls are super accessible and let you perform perfectly timed jumps. You control the lead horse, all other horses follow you automatically.
- Herd-Building - After each level, choose an additional horse to join your herd. Each horse functions like an extra life and has a specific power-up that changes the gameplay.
- Tricky Challenges - Complete challenges to earn rewards and push your platforming and strategy skills to the limit. At first the challenges are simple and easy to complete, later ones require good planning.
- Cute Pixel Art Graphics - Feel like you're back in the old days - with honest, straightforward gameplay, colorful, sharp pixel graphics, and if you want, even the look of an old TV.
I wasn't particularly sold on the idea originally myself. However, this is definitely a don't knock it until you've tried it type of game.
A demo is available on Steam.
