A recent update to glibc in version 2.41 appears to have been causing issues with Left 4 Dead 2, which Valve have solved in a fresh update.

The release notes simply mention "Fixed a compatibility issue that was causing a crash on Linux clients". Digging deeper, the issue was posted on Valve's official GitHub for Source 1 games. Going by the comments, it appears the issue appeared with the glibc v2.41 release. More info in this linked comment.

The issue came up on Arch Linux since that's a rolling release distribution and updates come in quite early, and is now solved, so when other Linux distributions also update they should see Left 4 Dead 2 continue to work.
